I am not sure exactly what you mean. This reading might still show some

fluid in the ear that they are waiting to drain, or it could show an excess

of movement. If it is excess of movement, it isn't a problem at all! It is

very common. If there is fluid in the ear, the tymp. will show a lack of

movement from the eardrum (i.e. a " flat " ). If long standing fluid is

treated and clears very quickly, it often creates a vacuum in the middle

ear. This gentle internal pressure causes the tymp to show an excess of

movement. This is not a normal reading, and you wouldn't want it to stay

that way permanently; however, when you have been fighting fluid, it is a

sign of improvement! Vacuums typically stabilize themselves painlessly and

quickly. Either way, it sounds as though Meredith is on her way.

I would probably still have the adenoids checked. I had several kids who

had theirs out and were much happier healthier kids. It used to be S.O.P.

to do an adenoidectomy at the same time as a merringotomy (putting in

tubes), but that seems to have gone out of medical fashion. My little

cousin had hers out last year, and her speech improved, her health improved,

and her voice is now much more pleasant to listen to. <sheepish grin>

However, as a mom who had to let her 15 month old have surgery, I know that

anything with anaesthesia is a BIG issue.

I hope things continue to improve for Meredith! (I also hope you step right

back on plan! We have to show the world that we lunar landing babies have

spunk! LOL)

Me either! LOL.... Actually he said that there was *negative*

pressure, which to me says that it has drained, and sucked the ear

drum in with it, but I could be wrong. I was just glad to put the

surgery off for a bit. The Ped told me that he waited for almost a

year with his own daughter who started out at 3mo with fluid in her

ears. That that AAP say's 3-6 mo waiting time and most insurance

companies now require at least 6mo. Since it hasnt' even been 3 mo

I'm not anxious to take her in for the surgery.

I did ask briefly about her adenoids and mentioned her nasely voice.

He said that the ENT would be the guy to ask about it. I told him

that I had, but he brushed that off as well. Since we are waiting I

will not push the issue at the momet and use antihistamines for now.

Funny you should mention this.... I was trying to explaine to her

what they would be doing. Giving her medicine to make her tired and

then putting the mask on her face like at the dentists office, and I

made the mistake of using the " S " word... yes sugery.... she

freaked! She had been completely fine with it up until that point.

Oh well... she knowes that she may still have to go in and have it

done, but that she has a break for now.

Ok, That means there was a vacuum. That is much better than some fluid

remaining. That just means that the pressure inside her ear should

stabilize on its own and be fine! (Providing new fluid doesn't appear of

course!) Sounds like you should be able to avoid the surgery all together!
