Guest guest
Ok now you guys are making me hungry. I know there has been more than one Tortilla Soup recipe posted. So which is the one most of you are referring to? (Sorry I can't view older posts at work since groups is a blocked site) I think I'm gonna have to make a trip to the store for some tomatoes etc. Thanks Tony Re: First time with the new Vitamix. Whoops! First time I read this I thought it said 1/4 SCOTCH! Might be a new twist on tortilla soup!Sandy>> Uh huh...what did we tell you?> I made tortilla soup today, too, also with half a jalapeño. However, a brighter and more interesting touch is about 1/4 Scotch bonnet--different heat and one I prefer to the jalapeño. I put my chips in the cup rather than in the container--no sense in having them get soggy in there. Also, 1/4 cup or so of frozen corn added at the end is wonderful and you don't even have to thaw it.>
Guest guest
The recipe I used is: Throw the following into the VM: 1 carrot 1 stalk celery 1 large roma tomato 2 cups boiling water 1 chicken boullion cube (Actually I used chicken " base " from Sam's) 1 Tbls " Blend It Up " Blend the crap out of it at warp speed until it starts to steam or until the VM achieves orbital velocity. Slow the starship down to sub-light speed, add the following: 1/2 cup black beans 1/2 cup corn a handful of tortilla chips a couple sprigs of cilantro Bring the speed up to 3ish and let it go for a few seconds... Feed the starving masses. This very simple version of the recipe is VERY tasty... I imagine the one on Lea Ann's site is far more complex in flavor profile. - Dow, D.C. Guest guest
I forgot to add three ingredients in the basic " throw it in " mix: a decent slice of red onion, 1/2 a Jalapeno pepper and a chunk of a really nice sharp cheddar. > > > The recipe I used is: > > Throw the following into the VM: > 1 carrot > 1 stalk celery > 1 large roma tomato > 2 cups boiling water > 1 chicken boullion cube (Actually I used chicken " base " from Sam's) > 1 Tbls " Blend It Up " > > Blend the crap out of it at warp speed until it starts to steam or until the VM achieves orbital velocity. > > Slow the starship down to sub-light speed, add the following: > > 1/2 cup black beans > 1/2 cup corn > a handful of tortilla chips > a couple sprigs of cilantro > > Bring the speed up to 3ish and let it go for a few seconds... > > > Feed the starving masses. > > > This very simple version of the recipe is VERY tasty... Guest guest
If you want to add cooked shredded chicken breasts, I boiled up the breasts with the soup bouillion first. I kept out one breast, added one cooked breast and the water that I cooked the chicken in. Guest guest
I use the one in the 5000 cookbook which is the same as the one in the current cookbook except that the spicing is different. I use 3/4 tsp. adobo and 1/4 tsp. Arizona Dreaming but might go half-and-half next time. I make sure my Roma tomato is REALLY ripe, though, which involves throwing it in a paper bag for a few days; I also use thick slices of everything and make sure my broth has lots of its own flavor. I also pre-roast my veggies because I think the soup tastes better that way. Re: First time with the new Vitamix. Whoops! First time I read this I thought it said 1/4 SCOTCH! Guest guest
Oh, the one I use is LOTS busier--it also contains yellow squash, cabbage, mushroom, onion, garlic, and bell pepper with 3 cups water. Guest guest
I shred my cheese and put it in the soup mug with the chips--much easier to clean the container that way. Guest guest
You can order from Penzeys on line. http://penzys.com/ "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~ Mahatma Ghandi From: <kareningotham@...> Sent: Wed, February 9, 2011 6:32:17 PMSubject: Re: Tortilla soup Well, if you go into Seattle, check them out! http://www.yelp.com/biz/penzeys-spices-seattle Adobo powder is a seasoning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobo . The original Vitamix tortilla soup recipe calls for 1 tbsp. of adobo powder but I think it's a misprint. I've always used a teaspoon and it's perfect. Tortilla soup I made my first tortilla soup recipe. My own version because I don't have The spice it up seasonings. I would have bought some when I got my vitamix but the demonstrator was out. So I just used my own seasonings, and I used left over taco meat. Man this is good and my 13 yr old thinks so too. karenk

Guest guest
At shows you have no choice but to buy a 3-pack for roughly $30 - so they are $10 each, but again, you must buy 3. Looks like $14.96 is the final cost after shipping and discount code applied. For many people this is the only way they can get the Blend It Up Spice because they didn't pick it up at the Road Show. We don't sell the spice at Military Base shows or at Whole Foods shows.
