Hi! What is IIRC grapes? JJ was eating the green ones. Also could you tell me

some other foods that has Salicyclates and amines in them? Did you have bad

behaviour too from the grapes? Thanks for helping me. Lois

Hi Lois,

Grapes have one of the highest level of sucrose, a natural sugar contained in

most fruit. If JJ has an abdunance or an overgrowth of yeast this will

trigger his negative behaviors. Remember what Dr. Goldberg always says that

no tests are 100% con- clusive therefore if a child reacts negatively no

matter what the tests reveal keep that food out of the child's diet. Perhaps

he developed an allergy to grapes, which he may someday outgrow.

Michele D.

Have a nice day.

grapes are banned in our household too. We follow the Dengate diet which

is low in salicyclates and amines. IIRC grapes are high in salicyclates -

you might want to look at what other foods are high in salicyclates and

consider reducing intake. Generally if they are reacting to one, they will

react to all.

Our son's response to grapes has been zoniness and shut down. We get the

grape response from grape juice as well, so I think in our case its the

grapes and not the spray. Either way we have not had grapes in our house

for more than a year. The other day in the supermarket he grabbed one and

we didn't see a response , however we are still avoiding them.

MSG (monosodium glutamate) us a digestive enzyme - it's the stuff that

" Accent " is made of. Anything that it's sprayed on ( although I've never

heard that) would probably be done to improve the flavor. The way " Accent "

works is that it starts partially digesting the food, like meat for example,

hence making it more palatable to our taste buds. Remember the " Accent

commercials, where they would tell you to sprinkle it on you food?

Lois - Fruits aren't really that great, especially for autistic kids. They're

chock full of sugar and phenols, which some parents think their kids react

to. Trying to get him interested in vegetables (yeah right) might be a good

thing. Dr. Goldberg has us limit fruit to one serving per day because of the

sugar content, and the fact that they fill up on fruit and don't want to eat

other foods, namely protein.

Lois - I know what you mean about vegetables. We've recently initiated a

bribery system that works with our little darling. Eat one bite of green bean

(salted, of course), and you get one bite of cantalope, etc. At first we

pretty much popped the bean in her mouth - she reacted like it was a dirty

sock. Eventually, though, she got it and now will grudgingly eat 4-5 green

beans, if she sees something tasty coming along - usually a little fruit, or

tortellini - which she loves.

MSG is particular;ly bad . Read the bood excitotoxins. It basically cause

the nerves cells to fire until they die. thats bad. kelly

If my child wants grapes I let him have them. He doesn't usually eat them.

I try to buy the organic grapes or really rinse them good. I don't think

every child has problems with the sames foods or is even in the same subset.
