HOME, SWEET HOME 12/7/2001

2001 was a terrific year for me because I got to stay home more! For the

last 25 years, that has not been the case. Oh, don`t be afraid. I`m not

going to stop traveling. I just not gonna travel as much. I guess I have

those Vaudeville shoes on from Leonard and Shirley who used to tell me

stories about how they would travel from city to city on trains and buses

for weeks and months at a time. Well, I`ve been doing that for a long time

now, and honest to goodness, I just got homesick.

I love my home. Do you love yours? I love my home because it`s warm and

friendly and it sort of has my personality. Of course, you know the loves of

my life are my dogs. Getting up in the morning and having those dogs come

and put their heads next to me and lick my cheek, well, there`s just nothing

better than that! I go to the bathroom and look out the window and watch the

hummingbirds drink their sugar water. I hope those hummingbirds don`t become

diabetic!

I go downstairs to the kitchen, get some oranges, and squeeze some orange

juice for myself so I can take my vitamins. I put some music on, read the

paper, and have a civilized breakfast.

I go down to the office, and Connie is there waiting so we can get a lot

done. We write e-mails and snail mails, and of course, we call people to

keep them going, if you know what I mean.

Do you, too, so love to be embraced by your abode? Are there plants in your

home? Are there flowers in a vase in the living room maybe? Do the colors of

the walls make you feel like it`s an extension of your mind? Is there a

comfortable chair and good lighting in your living room? Is there a piano

there? Do you play? Don`t tell me there are drums in your basement! Do you

have pictures of loved ones scattered around or hanging on a wall that you

get to look at often? Is your bed firm or extra firm, and are your pillows

fluffy? Does sunshine come in all the rooms? Oh, that sun gives you such

energy!

Ahh, it`s great to be home! The fanciest hotels and the greatest room

service don`t come close. A house can only be a home if you put time and

love in it, just like a friendship. Next year, there will be contests where

I will visit the homes of CLUBHOUSE members! I will take you grocery

shopping and help you with your exercises! I promise you will have at least

a month to clean that house within an inch of its life! No, I don`t look in

drawers and closets! ;-)
