Guest guest
I heated Saturday and applied pesticide Sunday. The pesticide combination was 1/4lb of sulfur dust per gallon of water plus 1 ml/gal. of Permethrin(the permethrin is a really high dose) I left the house and returned sunday night to clean the floors and ventilate prior to allowing my dog in. On sunday night I started feeling depressed as it seemed that heating plus insecticide had done nothing to the mites since I was feeling a lot of crawlies and bites. I had to sleep with the fan directly on my face to get some sleep. I then realized that I must got infested during my attic treatment. I didn't feel anything while dusting the attic because I was on constant movement but when I sat down that evening the show started. I had to bathe 3 times yesterday to get them off me. I learned a couple of things: Eurax does not work as a repellent for me. It seems to help with the ones that burrow under the scalp, or inside the nostrils or ears. So I'm using it as a spot treatment now. Sulfur soap seems to help clear me off the crawlies. I bathed with sulfur soap using a scrubber on all areas and left it on for a couple of minutes then washed it off. It leaves a very thin layer or sulfur on your skin although that didn't stop the hungry mites from attacking me upon entering the attic again.(I was feeling pretty much clear of the symptoms prior to last weekend so I didn't have any crawlies or burrowed mites) After washing off the mites with the sulfur soap I realize that the house feels pretty clean on the interior. All the walls and ceilings still have the sulfur dust on it and I plan on re-spraying it tomorrow. Before last weekend I would feel occasional pinpricks but I haven't felt anything like that today. I still have the attic problem which I need to figure out how to deal with. Any suggestions are welcome. MM
Guest guest
MM, could you be specific on the brand of Permethrin and concentration as well as the sulfur soap you used on your body. Guest guest
I used Permectin II brand (10% permethrin) About $11 for a quart (946ml) at the local feed store. I realize that I posted the incorrect dosage before. I used 10ml/gal of permethrin instead of 1ml/gal. To obtain the 10ml per gal you need 100 ml of the solution since it is 10% permethrin in this case. Please note that I've used a lot of pesticides before and they seemed to have very little residual effect. I'm hoping the sulfur leaves some residual effect but until I know for sure I'm a little reserved about recommending to use pesticides since they don't seem to be a silver bullet. Nedless to say that if you plan to use pesticides you should get a hold of a good respirator. About the soap, I initially bought the Grisi brand sulfur soap on Ebay for about $5 per bar including shipment but later on my wife bought some locally at one of the health stores. They were different brands but seemed to be about the same formulation (I think it contains 10% sulfur). It tends to dry your skin and hair so I don't know for how long you can use without drying up the hair too much. Maybe a conditioner on the hair would help after the soap. Good luck- MM > > > > I heated Saturday and applied pesticide Sunday. > > The pesticide combination was 1/4lb of sulfur dust per gallon of > > water plus 1 ml/gal. of Permethrin(the permethrin is a really high > > dose) > > I left the house and returned sunday night to clean the floors and > > ventilate prior to allowing my dog in. > > On sunday night I started feeling depressed as it seemed that > heating > > plus insecticide had done nothing to the mites since I was feeling > a > > lot of crawlies and bites.
