Guest guest Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Hi, Nil. When you use the cell phone, do you hold it against your left ear? Rich > > Hi all, > > I have a problem that I need to take your opinion of. About 3 years ago I started having a problem at my brain. My whole brain, left side being more, felt as if it was swollen. My left side head felt as if it would explode.I was not able to make any reasoning and thinking and decision making. Its severity decreased after a great struggle, various therapies, resting, etc. 2 days ago it came back. I again can not make any reasoning,I am forgetful.I just lay down looking with `empty eyes`. My head feel very swollen again. Can not feel much.Very little emotions other than the frustration experienced due to the situation. It feels as if my brain shut itself down. Can not understand what I read, can not talk and write. I start feeling strange smell. It is not so strong but it is different. > > Similarities between 3 years ago and today are. > > I had to make lots of thinking and decision making prior to start of this problem at both times. > Both were stressful periods. > Both required excess cell phone usage. > Could not perform my regular resting for some time prior to the start of this problem. > > I remember some of the members mentioning that they feel like autistics.I am wondering if what is happening to me could be the same thing? > > No significant changes at supplements lately,so this can not be due to supplement changes. Guest guest Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 hi Rich, Yes,always. I also hold normal phones on the left side.I don't know why. While I was working I used to hold the phone on the left side and take notes with my right hand. So,it could be a habit. I am not aware if other people do it this way or if they also use the right side. It could also be that it was my personal preference for some reason. Thanks. Guest guest Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Hi, Nil. Well, I don't completely understand what's going on, but I suspect that your brain has swollen and has therefore raised the pressure of your cerebrospinal fluid. If the brain swells, it will raise this pressure, because the brain is in a closed cavity, floating in this fluid. When the pressure rises, it collapses the arteries feeding the brain to some degree, and that decreases the blood flow to the brain. The result is that the brain is not able to function as well as normal. Why would your brain swell? Any inflammation of the brain will produce swelling. You may recall the woman named Roxanne from New Zealand who was on the list several years ago. In her case, I think her brain swelled because of a viral infection in her brain (viral encephalitis). In your case, the fact that it seems to be worse on the left side, that that is the side where you use your cell phone, and that this problem followed a period of heavy cell phone use suggests that the brain swelling may have resulted from exposure to electromagnetic radiation from your cell phone. There is research in the literature suggesting that some people report symptoms after cell phone use, and that they seem to increase with longer calling time per day. See the abstract below: Bioelectromagnetics. 2003 Apr;24(3):152-9. Related Articles, Links Subjective symptoms among mobile phone users--a consequence of absorption of radiofrequency fields? Wilen J, Sandstrom M, Hansson Mild K. National Institute for Working Life, Umea, Sweden. jonna@... In a previous epidemiological study, where we studied the prevalence of subjective symptoms among mobile phone (MP) users, we found as an interesting side finding that the prevalence of many of the subjective symptoms increased with increasing calling time and number of calls per day. In this extrapolative study, we have selected 2402 people from the epidemiological study who used any of the four most common GSM MP. We used the information about the prevalence of symptoms, calling time per day, and number of calls per day and combined it with measurements of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). We defined three volumes in the head and measured the maximum SAR averaged over a cube of 1 g tissue (SAR(1g)) in each volume. Two new exposure parameters Specific Absorption per Day (SAD) and Specific Absorption per Call (SAC) have been devised and are obtained as combinations of SAR, calling time per day, and number of calls per day, respectively. The results indicates that SAR values >0.5 W/kg may be an important factor for the prevalence of some of the symptoms, especially in combination with long calling times per day. Copyright 2003 Wiley-Liss, Inc. PMID: 12669297 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] I don't know if this is actually what happened in your case, but I would suggest minimizing your use of the cell phone for a while, to see if your brain will recover. Guest guest Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Hi, Rich and Nil, I have the same exact problem. I recently had a Brain SPECT scan and it was discovered that I have an area of vasculitis on my left temporal lobe and encephalitis. This goes along with my diagnosis of Chronic Lyme Disease. The Lyme seems to have attacked my CNS and I have pretty much the same symptoms you do. There are days that I just feel lost. I can no longer drive for fear of running off the road. Sometimes I speak and the wrong words come out. I also see things that are not there in my periphial vision. However, my doctor informed me as I get better with my long-term antibiotic treatment, the brain will go back to normal. I just pray that it works. Hope this helps, Kelley > > > > hi Rich, > > Yes,always. Guest guest Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Hi Nil I have been ill for 11 years and have what seems like the same problem with the left side of my head. I assumed this to be what cfs/fibro is although some people seem to have it worse than others. It feels as if all the nerves on the left side of my head are swollen and alight. I also have tinnitus and what i think is trigeminal nerve pain on the same side although some people say they have tmj I think it is worse than that. It makes thinking ect very difficult. It really is a case of thinking makes my brain hurt. When it is really bad i loose words and cannot put sentences together. It is now like it most of the time although I sometimes get better hours/days. If I could cure this then I would not have to live most of my life shut in a room on my own as stimultion makes it worse. Wish I could give you some answers but sadly not. n >From: " yildiz " <yildiz22@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: brain problem >Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2006 23:52:56 +0300 > >Hi all, > >I have a problem that I need to take your opinion of. Guest guest Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Hi. I'd strongly encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with CFS and/or Lyme Disease to consider the possibility of actually having celiac disease. Celiac disease is known as the " great mimic " because of the way it masquerades as many different illnesses. A good place to start in trying to understand it is the work of Dr. Green of Columbia University's Celiac Disease Center. I have not read his book " Celiac Disease : A Hidden Epidemic " , but I imagine it's very good based on a few interviews with him that I've heard which I've linked to below. Here's one on the Leonard Leopate show out of NY: http://www.wnyc.org/stream/ram?file=/lopate/lopate032505c.ra (requires Realplayer) Here's one on NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4244181 A brief story: Some time ago I was undergoing DMPS chelation when I met a man undergoing EDTA chelation that had been diagnosed as having Lyme Disease by a doctor that I had seen in the past. That same doctor diagnosed me as having CFS. We started talking about our health histories and I shared with him what I knew about celiac disease. Around the same time I was informing my new doctor as to what I knew about celiac disease. Well, to make a long story short the doctor decided to run a celiac panel after this guy had a major flare-up of what he believed to be Lyme Disease (swollen feet, pain, etc). Well, the panel came back positive and the doctor inquired as to what it might have been that caused the flare-up. What he discovered was that this patient had a friend who owned an Italian restaurant and had given him a huge amount of pasta which he apparently consumed with a vengeance. The celiac panel came back positive with Antigliadin IgA levels far above the norm. I spoke to him about the celiac diet and he subsequently stopped eating all gluten. A few weeks later he returned for his EDTA treatment and was like a different person. And this guy was in bad shape. His previous doctor (the one who diagnosed him with Lyme Disease) had actually put a port in his chest so that he could receive some very strong antibiotics. Interesting... Another personal page of interest (Is it FMS, CFS, or Celiac Disease?): http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/4003/ Based on what I know of celiac disease, I think it's quite possible that many of the people on this list have celiac or like myself have some degree of gluten sensitivity. Whether or not this gluten sensitivity is part of that same clinical picture perhaps not accurately measured using current diagnostic tools or some variation of the condition remains to be seen. No matter how it turns out, I'm convinced that celiac is a condition that everyone should be tested for - particularly people with as of yet unexplained conditions like CFS/FMS/lyme disease, etc. Before undertaking any research, a key point to remember is that celiac disease can manifest itself in many ways - from unexplained cases of osteoporosis/osteopenia, massive weight loss due to malabsorption, anemia, irritable bowel symptoms, gall bladder problems, and most relevant to this thread, neurological issues. Most doctors who are aware of celiac - and unfortunately many are not - are only aware of the obvious cases that present with horrible GI symptoms and weight loss. I urge anyone who might think they have things neurological going on to view the abstracts available on PubMed. A search for " gluten neuropathy " (minus the quotes) is a good way to get started: PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi MarkM > > > > > > hi Rich, > > > Yes,always. Guest guest Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Yes,n When this happens i also have to be in dark and quiet room for days. Last time it took me months to have some of my brain back.Life is difficult for us. Do you also have tightness on left side of body? I do, especially on left chest and shoulder. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Hi, I just started reading this thread and find it interesting since I have some similar issues (not exactly the same). I have been able to reduce most of the tightness in the left side of my body and improve my brain function by following Dr. Stoll's 3LS Wellness Program (Skilled Relaxation, Whole Foods Diet, Right Exercise). Have any of you tried it? Best wishes, Jan > > Hi Nil > > Yes, I do have the tightness down the left side of my body, especialy the > chest and shoulder and it even makes breathing very hard work as my ribs > hurt so much. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Yes n it is the same thing we are talking about. My arm and my left leg arae also very tight. I sometimes practice relaxation exercises and I am unable to relax my left arm and leg. When I try to relax my left arm it gets more tightened and my left hand starts contracting and going upwards out of my control. I also have pain at my left jaw and teeth. Best wishes. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I'm wondering if this is similar to muscular tightness or cramping? Or is it something else entirely.
