Hi

> Why are you here?? I am confused?

*** LOL - I've been tempted to ask you the same question several times

now :-) For myself, I came here to learn all I could about CFS and what

is/isn't working for people. If I wanted to discuss thyroid only, I

would have gone to a thyroid group.

*** I mean no disrespect when I say I don't know about other people

here, but for myself, I get turned off very quickly by people who keep

insisting that they are right and not allowing others to think for

themselves. I feel very confident that I don't have, and have never had

a thyroid problem. Yes, 's list could be thyroid, but then again it

could be many other illnesses as well. It all depends on how you

interpret it!!

Take care.

Hi Bernie,

I am on here because my girlfriend was recently diagnosed with active

EBV. She has many CFS/thyroid symptoms and I was trying see what you

all had to say. To be honest, I really thought a lot more people on

here would have said they were on thyroid meds and had great success

etc... I see though that there are many clinically hypo folk on here

insisting it's not thyroid but CFS. To be honest, it's a shame for

those people who are definitely hypo, but probably not being properly

treated. I have heard the story over and over and over.

I am not at all saying I am not open to alternative ideas, but when

one seems so clear to be a possible and real solution (with the right

doctor that is), I can't help but be adamant. I personally just want

to get better. Be 100% optimal so that I can live life and be the best

mom I can be for my babies. I get that there are people that probably

come on saying it's this, it's that etc.... Again, hypothyroidism is

not a quazy disease.

I also thought I might be creating a possible question in some of

y'all's mind (yeah I am a Canadian In texas now lol). I guess I have

done just the opposite. Perhaps you just see me as some crazy witch

doctor like the rest of them. I think I write clearly and succinctly,

but maybe that is just me being arrogant?

HI Barbara,

I never said that there weren't cases that had more involved. I am

sure there are. Those other issues will just exacerbate thyroid

issues. All I am saying is that I PERSONALLY feel that many are

getting labelled as CFS, when it is a hard hypo case to diagnose. I

thought I was posting something insightful. I guess it was just

aggravating for people who are on a totally different path. I know it

all gets so frustrating. I get frustrated too.

certainly thyroid functioning for him has played a part. He was

diagnosed as having growth retardation and it wasn't until he went on

thyroid medication over a year ago that he began to grow. He's got a

lot of catching up to do!! I am not so sure he is on the right

medication though and am just beginning to explore other options.

Locating a doctor knowledgeable in treating this area though has

proved a problem.

I just think there are somethings that don't have a clear explanation.

I know lots of healthy people who still have Hashi's (I think I was

born with it). I know lots of unhealthy people who have other viral

infections (or did) that may have precipitated a genetic propensity to

having Hashi's. How else can you explain five people on my husband's

family with Hashi's and other autoimmune disease. It's just not so cut

and dry. We don't really know now do we? We can fight all day about

this. THis was not my intent, but y'all have a good way of welcoming

someone who just happens to be exuberant and thought she had a great

bit of info that you could look into. I have read lots of neat stuff

correlating CFS with hypothyroidism. It's up to you if you want to

find someone who is well-trained to at LEAST rule it out. With a

faulty thyroid, you pick up ever stinkin' germ and viral infection

there is. SO it depends on how you look at what came first, the

Hashi's or the viral infections mentioned here.

Bernie, , et al,

I feel compelled to jump in here because I feel that there are very tender

feelings about these disease that we should be more careful with.. Bottom line

is, there is no black and white answer. We're all here to get ideas and feel

like we're not alone. Bernie - I belong to the thyroid group, and have recently

dx'd with thyroid issues and 14 yr vet of CFS, but honestly, there's not much

action over at the thyroid group, so a fellow CFS lister said check out the

experimental group; they might have something over there.

Should I not be contributing either???

Truth is, regardless of what came first, it's all a puzzle, and I'm here for

the same reason as many others. The thyroid is just ONE of the many disorders

that can happen to a person with this terrible disease. If I go to the Endo at

the end of this month and he cures me with meds, I'll turn buddhist and donate

my entire life to the religion, but meanwhile all I know is that I'm sick. I

would like nothing more than for my thyroid to be THE problem.

We should all be so compassionate, as sick as we feel most of the time. Please

be kind and open to each other. I've been on this list for two days and the

animosity here is scary.. - Wendi

*** No one at any time has asked that , or anyone else for that

matter, not contribute to this group. I have mentioned several times

that I don't believe that " I " have a thyroid problem, based on both a

lack of symptoms and testing over a 15 year period. I don't feel that

I need to be defending my position, and I don't appreciate someone

continually badgering me and insinuating that I am wrong because I

don't happen to fall in with their own beliefs.

*** I'm not quite sure what you reading to give you the impression

that the " animosity here is scary " as I certainly haven't come across

this over the past two days (or the past two weeks for that matter).

If you go back and read my messages, and those of other members, you

will find that we have kept our replies very friendly and at no time

have we shown any animosity towards anyone on this group. Because I

felt I have said all that needs to be said on my behalf, and also

felt that this could turn into a flaming session, I chose to no

longer participate in this conversation. I was not angry or upset as

was implied, I just know when to bow out.

There seems to be only ONE person getting upset because of the fact

that we are questioning some of her opinions. We aren't always going

to agree with each other and that is fine as that is what makes for

great conversation, when we can debate back and forth in a friendly,

mature, non-judgemental way :-)

Take care.

Good Lord Bernie, I was not badgering you or insinuating anything. I

was genuinely interested to know what thyroid tests EXACTLy you have

had. I really wanted to know. If you don't want to divulge in my

postings then just ignore me. Geez louise. Someone just pull out a gun

I understand your intentions, Bernie, thank you for explaining. I just read your

post, if that in fact was you, " why are you here anyway - this isn't a thyroid

board " ... I worried that I too was in the wrong place.. I'm new here and didn't

want to get anyone incensed, that's all.

Cheers.

, I'm glad to hear from someone who has an understanding of thyroid

function. I agree with you. I believe the TSH should be lowered to 2.0, but most

physicians get very nervous (about their liability) when it is in that range. My

point is, don't expect uninformed and misinformed people who are already very

ill to welcome ideas that would give their physicians a stroke. From one

arrogant to another, keep up the good work...but gently. Mel

Hi, .

I noticed your wonderment about the hypothesized glutathione connection to

hypothyroidism in people with the ME/CFS dx. From my standpoint it's no longer

theory, it's fact that glutathione is behind, not all, but many of those

diagnosed with Hashi's(a now clear miss diagnosis in these folk).

I think someone with your passion for the subject can make a lot difference by

getting the hyrdrogen peroxide hypothyroidism(HPH) diagnosis down pat and have

it be part of your overall repetoire of thyroid knowledge. I happened to have

conquered my ME/CFS related Hypothyroidism or HPA this past year and just

recently was able to completely let go of doing levoxyl(I've tried all the most

commonly rx thyroid meds, some at massive doses in the past, to little avail).

Anyway, check out message#90350 by entering this number in the box above and

hitting " GO " so you may have the benefit of my story and example of success

against HPH.

Thank you and I will, but tomorrow, as this hypothyroid crazy

I get drawn to this but needed to add a report on me Jan05 by

and Endo the only through examination I have ever had and

reccomended to see him by my dearest friend whose funeral I shall be

attending this afternoon.

have to hand type as I could not copy and paste for some reason...

Examination

'she seems understandably apprehensive but gives a good account of

her symptoms, supported by her husband. She is close to ideal body

weight....There is marked swelling of the submandibular salivary

glands, but no other stigmata of underlying conditions apart perhaps

from some livedo reticularis on extensor surfaces. Supine BP is

high...even after resting. Otherwise I find no cardiovascular,

respiratory, abdominal or breast abnormality.

On neuromuscular examination the joints and muscle power seem

objectively normal. However I find moderate tenderness of the

fibromyalgia trigger points, one or two fasciculations of the

quadriceps, quite high muscle tone, generally brisk reflexes and

seven beats of knee clonus,(but no ankle clonus)bilaterally. The

plantar responses are flexor, slight impairment of sensation in the

right leg dates from a past lumbar disc lesion, she tells me, Co-

ordination is objectively good although on sitting up suddenly she

feels unsteady(with no nystagmus). Romberg's test is negative.

Opinion and plan

An endocrine explanation for her problems is unlikely. Many features

would fit a functional disorder and/or chronic fatigue syndrome

(fibromyalgia), but the fasciculation and the new finding of

sialadenopathy merit further investigation. The latter raises the

possibility of Sjogrens or a mixed connective-tissue disorder. Also

her BP with me is too high and the presence of Helicobacter pylori

justifies a course of treatment....goes on then about checking TSH

chest xray and H.Pylori treatment and loads of bloodwork.

TSH at the time was below 3

Nothing else though has been 'sorted' by our Health service...Still

have the huge Saliva Glands...telling me something but I do not know

what? I just know I feel miles better than I did a year ago

following much of the ''goings on here''..Hope that was an insight

to ?...Dianne
