I just bought some and don't know how much to take. Champaign IL .. .. Dr St Armand developed a protocol for FMS using guaifenesin and there is a book, workbook and group supporting his efforts. Basically, everyone starts on a low dose and works up very slowly to about 5,000 mg per day. Expect a lot of herxing. That's a hallmark of effectiveness. I've used guaifenesin via prescription for years to thin mucous, but I do not recall the prescriptive doses. THere are a couple of place online where one can get guaifenesin considerably cheaper than the Mucinex brand available in the stores. Guaifenesin is the stuff in the original Robitussin and Tussin syrup. Hope this helps mjh " The Basil Book " http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/ Quote

Guest guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Dr. St. Amand's web site has a lot of information, which I am just starting to dig into. I think this includes discussion of brands of guai and doses, as well as an online support group. There seems to be enough info there and elsewhere to really try this treatment yourself, and then find one of the doctors listed if you need help. At least he doesn't seem to be secretive about the protocol, anyway... http://www.guaidoc.com/index.htm A few days ago someone posted a link to the Hillenbrand web site, check that out too. The woman who built the site says she's gotten symptoms under control with an expectorant (guai), a decongestant, Tums and an SSRI. Doesn't claim to be cured, just to have found a way to keep symptoms under control. > > <For your fibro, have you tried guaifenesin? Some people respond to > this. Guest guest Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Who's gotten very sick, and how? Were they able to recover and regain their prior poor health? Is it possible the drug was doing what it's supposed to? > > > > <For your fibro, have you tried guaifenesin? Some people respond to > > this. Guest guest Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Hi Folks: This is my first post here and I rarely visit FMS sites anymore but do drop in at different sites on occasion to see if any " miracle cures " have shown up. I am presently into my 6th year on the guai protocol. I'm 62, have had FM all my life and was totally sick by age 55. I am now approximately 95% well due to the guai protocol, Immunepro, a generous amount of vitamins, minerals, etc. and a low carb diet among other things. I still have some muscles to clear which will probably take another two years, but most of my long list of FMS symptoms have fallen by the wayside over the last five years. Most of my worst muscles are now healthier than they were when I was 16 years old. My main remaining issue is my energy level which though is much improved, is not where I wish it to be. I have recently started Recuperation (for the second time) to try to shortcut the natural guai energy progression and to boost my energy level as some people have found that Recup helps with energy. My first attempt with Recup resulted in a horrid experience but this time (almost 2 years later) there are no problems. I " STRONGLY " suggest that before anyone starts the guai protocol, that they get Dr. St. Amand's book " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia " and read it several times to totally understand this protocol in order to be successful. This protocol can be somewhat difficult but it is very much duable, and has helped many people. It has been the catalyst for my recovery. Guaifenesin is safe for long term use and can be bought over the counter, and cheaply from Canada for SA quai. Dr. St. Amand has a site set up and also the following site is excellent for information and also lists salicylate free products, including toothpaste, etc. The book and a list of sal free products is all that is required and this protocol can be done without the aid of a physician. The theory given in the book is presented as just a theory, but seems to be a major hangup for many people. Do a search for the Amand site and also check out this one for support: http://www.psha-inc.com/guai-support/ There is much misinformation floating around on the internet about this protocol. To be successful, to be informed, and to know what to expect, one must do their homework. Read the book!! This protocol is not a cure, and for most people it can be difficult, especially at the beginning, and usually for most is not a quick fix. The book explains this. However, many people who have been willing to stick it out have regained their quality of life. It took a long time, but I'm one of them. Hope this helps and best wishes, Diane/TN/USA -- In , " shakerz25 " <shakerz25@y...> wrote: > > Who's gotten very sick, and how? Were they able to recover and > regain their prior poor health? Guest guest Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Regarding the Guaifenesin, please do check out the guaidoc.com website. 5,000 mg is not the does you're supposed to start at, and it's rare for anyone to even need such an insanely high dose. I just finished a nine month stint on the Guaifenesin Protocol, to no avail, but I can tell you that no one feels better within a few days of starting it...on the contrary, you're supposed to feel worse if it's working. (I felt plenty worse, unfortunately, I can't really say I got better, at least, not back to the level I was before I started it!) Now I'm just feeling really worn out from that entire ordeal...I was told I'd feel better soon, but I didn't. They suggest you " take it and just forget about it " and one day you'll realize you're feeling better. Only, how are you supposed to get by until then? Also, the only people I personally know, who aren't employed by the clinic, have had the same results as myself. They are not significantly better after nearly a year... That's just my two cents on it though. Quote

Guest guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 No problem , I just hope the experience I've gained in the 9 months of my life that I've wasted on it can be of use somehow, to someone! ~ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 09 Jan 2006 01:11:51 -0000 From: " netsukeme " <netsuke@...> Subject: Re: Guaifenesin Thanks, Jennie, I will. Guest guest Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 You can get guaifenesin pure at the local drug store the way you used to be able to get it by Rx. I believe it is called mucinex. It's about $11 for 20 pills of 600mg each. If you cant find it let me know at _2276@..._ (mailto:2276@...) and I can mail you a bottle. Joe Quote
Guest guest Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 At WalMart, Mucinex (guaifenesin) is less than $9.00 for 20 tabs. THere is also a place online where you can get it loose, untabletted. mjh In a message dated 1/19/2006 1:56:20 PM Eastern Standard Time, 2276@... writes: You can get guaifenesin pure at the local drug store the way you used to be able to get it by Rx.
