Guest guest Posted March 16, 2005 Report Share Posted March 16, 2005 For tests like ISAC, you may wish to contact Hemex to find out which MDs in the area where you live have done the tests -- or sweet talk your GP or FP (Family Practise) MD into ordering them. Our CFS MD was our family practise MD before any of us got a diagnosis... we successfully converted her (gently) and now her practise in shifting heavily towards CFS/FM/GWS etc. We have had less luck with PCR testing for infections being covered. For tests from GreatSmokies, they will email a list of local providers that have used them in the past... So far, over the years and three different insurance companies, the ISAC tests have been at least partially covered (and sometimes fully) -- but that depends very much on the insurance company and the specific plan. My last ISAC (first one in 2 years - a check up) was covered fully by Group Health (less deductible), a WA-state non- profit health organization. We are in a fortunate position of having at least one person earning a healthy income (at one time, 70% of a normal salary from disability insurance), so we can afford to try tests without worrying about whether insurance will cover it. In the local CFS group, some are waiting to qualify on various welfare programs -- I believe that some of the programs will cover some of the testing (at least will, if your MD justify it).
