Primal Defense probiotics-question

Hello,

Has anyone had experience with this? I am taking it now, in the hopes that

it will help some very chronic IBS and low grade nauseau that I've had for over

eight months when I had a relapse. My question is, has anyone tried the

intensive treatment of taking 12 a day for 90 days? I wonder at what rate to

increase. I think I increased too rapidly--- was up to 10 per day, and then

realized that my symptoms

(burning, itching eyes, whole body muscle aches {more than the usual from

fibro)

and more severe brain fog than usual may be detox symptoms, so I have cut

back.

Now am taking 4. I think my symptoms are abating. Wonder if I should

increase one tablet per week? Any ideas out there, or links to where I can read

about what to do?

Thanks so much.

I have IBS and couldn't tolerate Primal Defense because of an allergy to

some of the probiotics used in it, and some of the other ingredients in it.

The more I tried to increase my dose, the worse my IBS got. I tried

increasing it really slow, over a long period of time, and still couldn't

tolerate it at all. I could tolerate it better when I left the bottle out on

the counter for about eight months. I think by that time whatever probiotic

I was allergic to had died off in it. But even then, it didn't seem to

benefit me at all and I still had problems taking more than just a couple a

day. My son and dog seemed to tolerate them just fine, and my son went

straight into taking 12 a day, all in one shot, with no problem. But then he

doesn't have IBS.

There are a lot of people who develop IBS because they have an allergy to

the microbes that have colonized their intestinal tracts. If those microbes

happen to be beneficial microorganisms, then taking supplements with those

microorganisms in them will only make the IBS worse, and not do anything to

resolve the problem. And there are too many other ingredients in Primal

Defense that really aren't necessary, and only increase the likelihood that

you'll react to one of the ingredients.

However, Primal Defense is pretty expensive, and I've joined an e-mail list

called EM-health on to learn more about Effective

Microorganisms (EM, also called Efficient Microorganisms, and a bunch of

other acronyms) that are in ceramic disks or pellets that you use to make

your own probiotics. They're using them to ferment whey, filter water, make

antioxidant brews, etc. It's been fascinating. I haven't gotten them and

made my own yet, but I think it is a much less expensive option than Primal

Defense, and has some very promising research behind it. The list isn't very

busy, but there are a ton of very useful emails in the archives and the

files section. The advantage of making my own probiotics is that I don't

have to have all the other ingredients in it, such as alfalfa or sunflower

seed meal that Primal Defense has in theirs, which I'm also allergic to. I

suspect that EM is where Primal Defense got the idea for their probiotics in

the first place. And I can't see paying the outlandish prices that Garden's

of Life charges for their Primal Defense, because it seems that the process

of making one's own probiotics are really easy.

I've been drinking home made kefir for a couple months and its really helped

my gut, has tons more probiotics than store bought stuff and I make mine with

goat's milk which is more digestible than cow's. Check out

www.Kefir_making for more info than you could possibly want.

hi Adrienne -

tastes a lot like mild buttermilk, more or less sharper, depending on how long

you let the grains ferment.
