Guest guest
Stania, The syringe is never refrigerated. I fill it just prior to injecting. I appreciate your advice but I have a hard time believing that that level of pain could be caused from injecting a cold substance. I used to inject B12 right out of the frig and didn't have that effect. Now I read that B12 should be refrigerated (earlier I was told it didn't matter - it's hard to know what to believe) so I will refrigerate it again. Does anyone have experience with someone mixing injectibles incorrectly? I can't help but wonder . . . historically, I'm not a wimp. This doesn't seem like a normal level of pain for a shot. A year ago there were complaints posted about how painful B12 shots are. Previous to buying the much needed McGuff painless formula of B12 I bought b12 at a local coumpounding pharm. and the pain wasn't that bad. Thanks for replying. I need to " shot-up " tonight and will try your suggestion. I better start earlier tonight - the shock from the pain kept me up for an hour last time. Guest guest
I have been told and read that B12 doesn't have to be IM (in muscle), it can be sub-c (in fat). Is there a reason why you are injecting in muscle? When I did gamma globulin shots in muscle, it did help to warm it up before injection, I think mainly it was thicker and less fluid when cold, and less able to go into the muscle tissues. Guest guest
Interesting that warming the injection site would help. When I was having tramsfer fractor injections the doc suggested icing. (A TF injection can feel like you shut your arm in a car door - awful!!)I would ice for about 20 minutes before the injection. It cut the pain by about 95 percent. A little bit of lidocaine added to the end of the syringe makes it painless. That's going in. Pain later is another problem. Guest guest
I missed the original post on this, I think, but will try to answer what I think was the intent of the original post. I too am doing a Cheney protocol for elevated RNaseL, which includes aciclovir, lysine and a product called Oral Mat (Australian rye grass). I have been taking B-12 and glutathione injections for quite a while now. My previous doctors had my take my B-12 injections IM, once a week. Dr. Cheney has me take them sub q on a daily basis. They can be taken either way. The glutathione is IM, and I have found no way to alleviate the pain from that injection. My husband gives my Mag/Taurine injection first, then the glutathione, because he knows he wouldn't be able to give me the mag injection if he gave glutathione first. Gently massaging the site afterwards helps, but there are definitely nights when my butt aches for a long time. My injections are given around 9:00 pm, so by bedtime I am no longer hurting. I have given the injection straight out of the fridge, and sometimes it has been drawn up but not injected for a half hour, and I find no difference in the pain. Sorry, I don't have a better answer, but hope this helps knowing you are not the only one who feels pain from the glutathione. Donna in NC PS - preservative free injectibles probably should be refrigerated, but when I was taking B-12 that was preserved, I did not refrigerate it. Guest guest
Thanks Donna, Doris, and others for your suggestions I have been injection the Glutathione in my leg with a ½ " insulin needle. Maybe the hip is a better place. I hesitate because, I too, am doing the mag/taur shot and one hip is sensitive due to previous injuries. But, Donna you take two " butt shots " in one night I guess I could too. :-) It gets pretty hard to finish injecting the last half of the cc once the pain starts. So much for injecting slowly. - Do you inject the two shots in the same hip? - Who do you buy your Glutathione from?. I called Wellness and they were kind enough to rush ship another batch out to me. Unfortunately it wasn't any better. The first batch had a ph of 7.53 and the second had 6.92. I understand that 7.4 is ideal. They also mentioned that topical cream, suppositories and IV as alternate methods of administrating. - Anyone have any experience with any of these that they'd share? Doris, you asked why I am injecting B12 IM rather than sub-c – that is what Cheney prescribed last November. BTW – Cheney prescribed whey, GSH, Isoprinosine, PineExtra, and OralMat as the first line of defense against the high RnaseL activity. If that doesn't work he recommends some things that sound like heavy drugs. . . . But I won't need those because this will work. (positive thinking) Appreciate hearing from experienced people – thanks again. Guest guest
Jo, Am finally back home after cavitation surgery in Indiana, and trying to catch up on a backlog of posts from various mailing lists. Sorry so long to answer you. I have to admit my DH injects my " butt shots " as I have bad FMS and can't even twist around to give them to myself, but it does make it easier because I have no " control " over the inflicting of the pain. LOL. DH hates it, as he can tell how painful the glutathione injection is. Yes, we use the same hip for each shot, and rotate to the next hip the next night. I also give all my other injections in the same side for that day (two heparin injections, allergy extract injection and B-12 injection) to try to keep my mind straight. I put a Band-Aid on the hip of the day, whether it needs it or not, so I always know which side I'm working on that day. I buy my Glutathione from McGuff's Pharmacy in CA, my mag/taurine and B-12 from Wellness. I was taking whey (but not tolerating a full dose), glutathione, Isoprinosine, PineExtra and Oral Mat before my RNaseL test that was markedly elevated. So we obviously had to go directly to the antivirals. I started with Famvir but had such excruciating headaches and body pain that he switched me to aciclovir and lysine. I tolerate the aciclovir much better than the Famvir, but may switch back again after my follow-up RNaseL test, which should be next week. (30 days after starting the antivirals and lysine program.) I see Cheney on Thursday, so who knows where we'll go from there? Was your test done at Immunosciences Lab in CA? How elevated was it, if you don't mind my asking? Donna in NC Re: Glutathione Injections & pain HELP!! Thanks Donna, Doris, and others for your suggestions But, Donna you take two " butt shots " in one night I guess I could too. :-) - Do you inject the two shots in the same hip? - Who do you buy your Glutathione from?. Guest guest
Donna, When I didn't hear back from you I checked around and decided to try injecting in the hip (same hip as mag shot) and added procaine to it. It worked like a charm. I suspect it was the procaine that made the shot almost as bearable as the mag shot. You may want to try it. But please be warned that the pain killer tends to make you forget to inject slowly. I'm sure you're aware of the importance of injecting slowly but I feel the need to pass that along since the clinic warned me. Personally I think it was the oposite - once the pain hit, half way through injecting, I just wanted to get it over with so I could lay down and die. ;-) Maybe I'll check out McGuff for the glutathione next time. My last immune tests were done at Immunosciences. There were 4 tests . . . I assume your asking about the RNase-L. The results were: Rnase-L inhibitor WB 8.3 (3.0 - 5.0) is normal RNase-L Activity 26.00 (1.0 - 10.0) So now I'm curious. How does that compare to your results? Or if anyone else cares to share their results I'm interested in knowing how they compare. Donna, if you don't mind sharing, I'd like to hear what Cheney has to say. Immune activation appears to be of my big problems. You are SO fortunate to live so close to the Dr. We fly 3000 miles to see him and my next appointment is a week after he's scheduled to move into his new location (Dec 1st). I've yet to see a contractor finish building on time during hunting season and winter weather. But we will make our reservations and hope for the best. Thanks again, Jo Vancouver, WA > Jo, > Am finally back home after cavitation surgery in Indiana, and trying to > catch up on a backlog of posts from various mailing lists. Guest guest
Hi Jo, I saw that you live in Vancouver and fly to east coast to see Dr. Cheney. Not that Dr. Cheney doesn't do good work(seems from observation of this site that he does), but are you aware of Green and Debra Glasser Green in Canby, Oregon? I use Green, he seems to be on the ball concerning these matters. I have been seeing him for almost a year and am beginning to see results after chasing my tail(other doctors) for several years. If you have interest I will offer phone number. good luck, jim --- filberts@... wrote: > Donna, > > When I didn't hear back from you I checked around > and decided to try > injecting in the hip (same hip as mag shot) and > added procaine to > it. Guest guest
Hi Jo, Thanks for the tip on the procaine. I'll try that. We only ran the RNaseL activity - it was 63 (1.0 - 10.0). It even knocked Cheney back a bit, but my clinical picture has been rapidly declining, particularly in the neurological and cognitive arenas, so he is not uncomfortable with the level, but we will talk more tomorrow. The interesting thing is that my immune tests did come back modestly better overall - 4 markers went up statistically significantly, while 2 went down, but not within a statistical difference. But whatever is going on is probably why there was not a more marked improvement in my immune tests. However, Dr. Vojdani's comments about seeing high levels in people exposed to toxic chemicals makes me wonder if that's a big factor behind my activity level. I have heavy exposure to toxic chemicals besides heavy metals, such as organophosphate pesticides (that the GWV's were exposed to) and chemicals from cleaning medical equipment in tiny rooms with caustic sterilizing agents and little to no ventilation. There may not be a simple answer in my case. I'll keep you posted. I am lucky to live close to him, and even luckier to be seeing him before the move. North Carolina is a wide state - it will now be an eight hour drive for us to get to his new office, which BTW, was supposed to be done in early November. He just allowed an extra month for them to finish as you are quite right about contractors finishing work on time. Fortunately, it is not winter here yet, even in the mountains, but it is hunting season! I would make your reservations and not worry - I don't think he leaves things to chance - I bet their payout for not finishing on time is huge, much bigger than they would want to pay back!!! Take care, Donna in NC Re: Glutathione Injections & pain HELP!! > Donna, decided to try injecting in the hip (same hip as mag shot) and added procaine to it. It worked like a charm. .... .. . . Guest guest
Hi Jim, Thanks for the tip. The name Dr. Green rings a bell. I must have heard their names early on in the disease and forgotten them. Can you tell me what approach the doctors take? Do they use strictly conventional doctoring methods or is alternative methods also used? Do you mind giving me the treatment that they have you on? That would give me a pretty good idea of what they're about. Also can you tell me what they specialized in in med school? I am partial to Dr. Cheney because he also is researching new treatments. But I am interested. Eventually I may not be able to afford to go to Cheney and Canby is quite a bit closer. Thank you for taking the time to write. BTW Where do you live, Portland? Are you aware of the CFIDS Support Group in Portland? It is quite helpful and a nice bunch of folks too. The website is: http://www.icontoo.com/cfids.html.
