Guest guest
I also want to thank everyone for the support they have sent, and I have a healing story to share. We are a Jewish family and we have a German exchange student living with us this year. During the crisis yesterday he called home to reassure his parents that he was OK, since he just in Washington on a field trip and didn't know if his parents knew he had left there and was safely home with us. It was so odd to listen to our end of the conversation, so odd as Jews to hear German spoken in our kitchen, to know the outpouring of support that was coming straight from the hearts of Germans in a little village near the Belgian border, from people we are coming to love through their beautiful son. After all those WWII movies I've watched over the years, the language has become equated with evil in my mind without my even knowing it had. But to think like that is to be like the Nazis and the Muslim terrorists. so, even while I was falling apart from grief at the tragedy, a little black part of my heart was healed, too. We may have to answer violence with violence, but we don't have to answer hate with hate. We have to remember that these are people on both sides, people who can learn and change and heal. And we have to remember that all Muslims are not terrorists. My prayers, too, go out to all who were touched by this, and I believe that's all of us. I hope it unites us against the insanity of the terrorists and can ultimately lead to a new level of peace around the world. And I hope all of us patients trying to deal with the stress of this can take good care of ourselves today.
