I actually said 10 to 20 grams, not milligrams. I suspect that is what you meant to say. Concerning " bad things " resulting from vitamin C, you may be referring to Dr. Cheney's belief that if you are low in glutathione and are trying to build it up with nondenatured whey protein, you should limit your vitamin C supplementation to 2 grams per day. I think that his reasoning is that the two interact. Reduced glutathione can be used to reduce oxidized vitamin C. His concern is that if you load up on vitamin C, you will be using your limited supply of glutathione to regenerate the vitamin C, and it thus won't be able to do its other jobs. It is true that reduced glutathione can regenerate vitamin C, but I'm not sure that he's correct about the rest of it, since the cells have a certain production rate of oxidizing free radicals, and if vitamin C quenches a big fraction of them, then they are taken care of. If there is not enough reduced glutathione to regenerate the vitamin C back to the reduced form, then Dr. Cathcart says that the oxidized form just leaves the body. Dr. Cheney could be right about this, but I don't think there is proof of that. In any case, if you want to generate diarrhea with vitamin C, I think you will have to use a lot more than 2 grams per day. Rich >> Yes, you are right. I meant to say 20grams. Also, I found out that why it is said that high doses of vitamin c could be bad....it's because it has been found in almost every study to create kidney stone in MOST, not all, but most people. I really need to be careful of this because I am prone to kidney stones to begin with. Is there a way to counter this so that I can still take vitamin c in high amounts to produce diarrhea? I am not sure if the acidity part of vit c that causes the kidney stones or if its something else. Also, the other bad part about taking high doses of vitamin c is that it acts as an antihistimine and it dries out my nose and eyes so much! However, numerous studies demonstrate that in persons not on hemodialysis or suffering from recurrent kidney stones, severe kidney disease, or gout, high-dosage vitamin C therapy does not cause kidney stones. " So if you are prone to having kidney stones, it sounds as though you are correct, you should probably be careful about high doses of vitamin C.
