So glad to hear outgrew this. So there is hope. She also sneaks

them and wipes down EVERYTHING in the house with the wipes or a wet wash

cloth. Makes me nuts. So we finally bought her some wipes for dusting,

prob is she wants to wipe the windows, walls etc with them. She is a

smearer too. Loves to get the shampoo bottles or the shaving cream,

whatever she can find to smear and wipe. She has sure taught us that

silence is NOT golden, it is TROUBLE. LOL.

no problem, we are a learning group too,lol (lots of laughs) um lets see, ds

is down syndrome, pdd is pervasive devleopment disorder --another name or

form of autism, add/hd is attention defecit disorder/hyperactivity disorder,

and ocd is obsessive complusive disorder. hope this helps, i will try to

remember not to abbreviate so much, most of us put in a few of the other

diagnosis' that seem to be going along with the down syndrome and autism

dual for our children. Some such as nathan have many health issues and a

mile long diagnosis, but others are very healthy besides the dual diagnosis.

Its a great mix up of a group of all kinds, very helpful and supportive.

shawna.

ooh neat, finally a local, lol i thnik just about everyone else lives on the

coastal spots, lol, im a land lubber, lol, but someday we plan on going ot

see the ocean. We love advetureland!!! we usually go every summer but this

weekend is our county fair, and have to goto the harness races, and the

tractor pulls, rrrrrrruuummmmmm waaahoooo, !!!!!!! the boys love it, soooo

noisy and fun, lol, then the figure8 races and this year they even have a

monster truck there the boys will be in macinery heaven, lol. We rarely ride

any rides at fair they are lame, and exspensive, thats what adventureland is

for, we have to practically drag nathan out of that place he loves it soo

much and the scary rides too, he will go on any rollercoster etc, I am

always afraid he will fall out, ofcoarse i go with him but im always doing

the mom thing putting my arm over him, lol. omaho is around 5-6hours away, i

think, its where the zoo is right? the official day school starts here is

august 21, but i think nathan is to be going back the 6th but arrangements

havent really been made and he only goes for 30minutes, a big waste if you

ask me, his birthday is on the 8th, we will probably have a party for him

that weekend, not sure. We live up in humboldt/dakota city, about 2hours

north of des moines. Cant miss it right on hwys 169 and 3. Many semi's come

through here on the hwyways. Id love to meet with someone from the group!!

isnt much older than christain, he will be 10yrs old, we are trying

hard to get him a trampoline for his birthday, everyone pray that everyone

will pitchin for the cost, got some family memebers that will so far. Just

let me know, I wish i could meet you at adventureland but we usually go on a

weekday, short lines,lol.

whew!! heheeh, we have a good supply of carpet shampoo here too, lol. Im soo glad

he finally went. Does steven understtand verbal language spoken to him? If he

does, be sure to tell him he needs to potty in the toilet not his pants maybe

even make a little story book about it, this helped nathan remendously, he even

knows and will even sayit if i ask him if has an accident, " natan poopoo/potty

toilet " he says quickly really input this idea, and nathan has his own special

accident drawer in the bathroom, it has a spare undies, pants, shirt and socks

and a couple washcloths too, he over the many times over the years knows its not

nice beind stinky and wet, and has to wash up and change clothes with just

supervision to make sure he gets clean, its way easier to use the toilet than

have to wash and change clothes each time. Nowadays with him taking himself to

bathroom, he doesnt always tell us he had an accident until after he has

changed, he will say " see " showing us he is all clean and that he did use the

toilet too. shawna.

a

Whoa ! Ok , A ok at this end , finally urinated, on the

floor , sitting on plastic . I'm not worry anymore , but I know, I

will be washing more than ever . I also know I better go to the store

to purchase more rug shampoo . Oops , timer went on , g2g. Take care .

shawna,

Was a scratcher? Angel scratches all the time, her bum and her legs.

She seems to always have a hand in the back of her pants. She has always

done this, panties, pull up or naked. Just a scratcher. It's gross when

she has had a bm and then scratches. Of course her hands are in her mouth

if they aren't in her pants! Yup, gross! Doesn't phase her a bit. But, if

she gets a smell of her bm while I am changing it, or if she lands one in

the toilet, she is gagging and almost puking over the smell of it. Funny

kid. Makes me laugh so much.

painted and squished bms with hands, but hopefuly he

has outgrown that, very gross, ive told him its gross,

ewww yucky, etc and he seemed to catch on, will

ocasionally even ask if something is " yuckie? " . shawna.

oh its school conferences, nathan is doing great!! wahoooo! but i want to tweak

a few things, and they are fine with this, whew!!, and nicholas, im almost in

tears not doing well at all, over half of his reprt card had " N's " . I got them

to try another eval, i will not let himslip through the crack darn it, I dont

care if he gets his answers right, he cant read hardly at all, and is in second

grade, the average for the second graders is 63 of what im not sure, and nic got

a 26, OUCH! He does start seeing a counselor this coming tuesday, im hoping this

will help. We are at our wits end trying to encourage nic and teach him. Have

read to him and nahtan since toddlers, and play games all the usual parenting

stuff, we and the school know nic is smart, its just a different level, its very

weird, id have to say he is beyond in ways of thinking compared to his peers but

yet cant get the simplest of things, and need to fill in the gaps for him.

shawna.

a

HI a ,

& TONS of praise ,hugs & thumb thumbs . Thanks for sharing and making

time to post . Take care and Happy Belated Birthday to 's

hope the couselor can help . Have you had his ears and eyes checked ?

I know you did with . Just wondering if auditory problems or

needed glassed ? Just to rule out . I heard a genetic study going on

with kids with autism have siblings that are Nuero-typical are gifted

& talented or other disability are being noticed more than ever .

Almost sounds like my son Rick when he was Nic's age with what you've

mentioned . He needed challenges to learn . When he was in second

grade sure enough he was tested and yep , he's GT (gifted &

talented) . Say, if I remember correctly wasn't it Margaret who also

has a son that is also GT ? Anyways just wanted to give you some HOPE

because I know you'll find some answers for him .

want to tweak a few things, and they are fine with this, whew!!, and

nicholas, im almost in tears not doing well at all, over half of his

reprt card had " N's " . I got them to try another eval, i will not let

himslip through the crack darn it, I dont care if he gets his answers

right, he cant read hardly at all, and is in second grade, the

average for the second graders is 63 of what im not sure, and nic got

a 26, OUCH! He does start seeing a counselor this coming tuesday, im

hoping this will help. We are at our wits end trying to encourage nic

and teach him. Have read to him and nahtan since toddlers, and play

games all the usual parenting stuff, we and the school know nic is

smart, its just a different level, its very weird, id have to say he

is beyond in ways of thinking compared to his peers but yet cant get

the simplest of things, and need to fill in the gaps for him.

thaks irma, yeppers, he gets routine eye and hearing tests, has had ST since

3yrs, so hearing evals are mandatory. Ijust pray that he can learn to read etc

as his peers do, children are very cruel, and idont wnat him to be made fun of

or hate school. He allready says he hates his life, i dont know what to do with

him, i get in tears trying to cope with him, he doesnt misbehave really, just

wont loosen up, such a perfectionist, and worrier, i supose some is genetic, we

can see some in our parents, but not to this degree, the rest i often think some

comes from having nathan for a brother, he worries about him frequently. The doc

did mention with nathan having autism, ocd etc, nicholas maybe showing some

signs of this, not to rule it out, even though he is very healthy and functions

mostly on average level, social etc. just request prayers for him shawna.

This is good news on , yes, prayers for next week and his

evaluation . is still doing fine , has been interacting with

his classmates , which is nice to see . I remember when he use to

say " Leave me alone " or " go away " , oh and his famous word " NO " .

Thank you so much on the recommendation or suggestions of the

Miralax , I've noticed some improvement in his skin , which helps

cleanse his system . Because he would have breakouts with acne on his

back . When I contacted his Ped. doc , this was all new to him , he

had to research on the internet , of course I did my research . His

doc just gets surprised when I request or just ask something that

pertains to something I would like more info on .

I remembered the first day I took to his office , I did not

want to mention the word down syndrome because many other docs had

not realized that was Downs . He had pass the test . Then the

beginning of this year I had to convince him that also had the

autistic spectrum disorder . Now he tells me , " I told you he also

has autism " . I just smile at him , he is a good doc , who treats

as a person . Love the challenge . Luck next week .

Hey a,

Thanks for the advice. I wish I could guarantee the

time and patience from the staff, but I don't know.

For some reason I don't think everyone takes there job

as seriously as I do (ha). I guess I just have to keep

on them. I may use your timer idea though. I think

that is a good idea and may work with this person. You

all are such a big help I think I should be paying you

(Ha). Thanks for the advice.
