Janine,

Welcome, we are all " new " in this group. In answer to your second

post, it probably depends on what enzymes you are currently giving.

Could you post the names and maybe the ingredients and what results

you have seen with them?

Your first question is a very good one. Basically this board was

formed about one week ago because of the new enzymes from Houston

Neutraceticals (I will eventually learn how to spell that). Many of

us have been on GFCF diet boards. Enzymes have been useful in the

treatment of many biological problems, including those on the

autistic spectrum. So that part is not new. In fact, people post

about SerenAid regularly. Devin Houston formulated that product and

has " new and improved " it in the form of Peptizyde. This product is

designed to focus on the breakdown of the peptides derived from dairy

and gluten that cause some of the problems in autists.

Devin has been fielding all kinds of biochemical questions from

parents for a really long time on the gfcfdiet.com/autismdiet.com

message board. However, with the release of this new product, many

parents are reporting incredible breakthroughs with their children

and new options to their lifestyle.

Well, it didn't take long before the GFCFdiet board was becoming

overwhelmed with enzyme talk. This quickly started spilling over onto

other boards (gfcf related and other). Since the founders of the well

recognized gfcf diet have adamantly maintained it must be 100% strict

compliance or nothing, some members of the GFCF diet boards were

rather " uncomfortable " with the talk of using enzymes. So in response

to that, this board was created as a forum where enzyme talk and

options could be discussed.

Don't get me wrong, the majority of people wanted to be informed of

new options. But some of us parents were clearly talking about using

enzymes to " cheat " on the diet, and get some relief from the

strictness of it. Also, it is very difficult for some to implement

(when your kids are older, traveling, family adjustments, etc.), so

this presents a way they can have the benefits of being GFCF. And we

are finding that there are many gains with enzymes whether you are

GFCF or not.

So, the creation of this board takes the awkwardness out for

everybody. No one here is for or against any restrictive diet. We

just want to explore the new options freely. Although questions on

enzyme use, and other treatment options, are welcome on the GFCF diet

boards, it is more appropriate to have the very enthusiastic,

detailed and in-depth discussions here. (If anyone else wants to add

something, just jump right in.) We seem to be the " pioneers " here as

we field the possibilities.

A few other companies have announced that they will be releasing new

enzyme products in the near future. I am sure we will be exploring

those as they come up. This board is not exclusive to the Houston

enzymes, it is just that those were the ones which showed significant

improvement for families, and prompted the formation of this board.

The Past Posts on Enzymes in the Files section are the discussions on

enzymes from the previous board. They start around September, 2000.

Reading through those provides a lot of background on enzymes and

autism, and the different viewpoints from parents. There is also a

very good FAQ section at HNI's website (www.houstonni.com).
