would Dr. Brewer be willing to follow up on the Galantamine / galanthamine

Trials??

I have read reports of a clinical trial involving the use on Galantamine in

the treatment of CFIDS/FM. It is my understanding that

this drug is currently used in Europe to treat post-polio syndrome, MG, and

AD. Having said that I know nothing about the

drugs pharmacological properties. The first clinical study was none in

Iceland in 1996, the results were positive but the sample

size was so small that further study was needed to provide conclusive

results. The newsletter (Health watch) indicated that a

major multi-site study has just been completed in the US. The article

further indicated that the results are positive but the study

has not yet been published.

I called Osco's consumer pharmacy line and the pharmacist indicated that

this drug is not available in the U.S. at the current

time. However when I asked him to do an industry news search he indicated

that n had a press release out indicating that

they were actively pursuing entering this drug into the US market. I then

call n (1-800-526-7736) and they indicated that

they could not talk to consumers about Galantamine but they could discuss

the availability of this product with a physician. The

Dr. would simply need to call the same 800 number and they would connect her

to another physician.

My Dr. is so busy right now I hate to ask him - he has none multiple favors

for me in the last few weeks. However if anyone

else can get his or her MD/DO to call I would love to hear the result of the

call.
