Guest guest
Man, it has been a loooong time since I have written to the group. I have been having some major issues with my achalasia the past few months and am just trying to keep myself sane. I have decided to proceed with the esophagectomy. My surgeon said the " American average " is that 16 out of 100 die. He said his is 4 out of 100, so, I am looking at it as 96 out of 100 live...but, I'm still scared. Can those of you tell me what it was like after? How soon before you were able to eat again? What were the side effects you had? (sorry, this is gross, but, candid) After you eat, do you go to the bathroom right away? What can you NOT have? How long ago did you have it and how are you feeling now? If you would like, you can email me at ChristiM1969@.... Christi Lincoln, NE
Guest guest
Hi Christi, I just wanted to let you know that those statistics are only for cancer patients, not people with Achalasia. I had my esophagectomy two years ago, and yes, it's been very difficult and painful but I am very glad I didn't continue to wait any longer. I was 40, and had suffered for 16 years, two open myotomies and countless dilatations. It takes about 6 months before you are almost 100%, but I was eating soft food before I left the hospital.
