Helen,I just don't know when I'm going back b/c I just don't know. She didn't say. And I have made her aware of the ins changewhen I left the message thru the one assistant that I didn'twant to leave the message thru.I didn't have a biopsy so there is no reason to wait forresults. I will be the one that tells her how this did and Iwon't know for a while but I know that I'm going to need surgeryfor the endo any way.

Helen,

I thank you. I just did it b/c of all the vaginal wall pain b/c

there is inflammation on the other side of it. Whether or not

it's endo remains to be seen. And if it is endo and this takes

care of it then maybe my dr needs to freeze the rest of it out.

We shall see.

And I understand about the memory aspect but I still want to

know when we are going to have surgery set up for me if that is

the route we go since the Zoladex stopped working.

Helen,

I know you worry and I appreciate it. I just wasn't sure which

part you wanted to know which was why I asked. Sorry.

Well, I'm hanging in there. I've been having ups and downs but

they are much better than what I had a few weeks ago. I am

going to have to figure out if I want my dr to get an ultrasound

of my left ovary b/c something isn't right with that and I know

it's endo related again to some degree but I don't know for sure

to what degree.

As for the dr I see her on the 10th but I'm on a cancellation

list to see if I can get an earlier appt so that we can talk.

My next step will be to go back on the pill but I don't know

exactly whether it will be right away or after I have surgery if

we can get that figured out so that I can have that before I

have to change ins co.

The HMO that I will be having to accept requires problem visits

for a gyn to get a referral from a PCP just like any other

specialist and I don't agree with that at all. I feel that

women like myself who have special health needs that need

constant monitoring by a gyn should have direct access to their

drs. So I'm going to see about having that changed. We shall

see but for now I've written a letter to the wife of the

Governor here in FL to express my concern about this. I sent

the e-mail the other day so we shall see if she responds.

Thankfully the meds have been helping and of course I'm just

trying to stay off my feet as much as I can until I see my dr so

that the constant standing doesn't bother me.

Well, I'm about ready to head to bed in a little while but I

wanted to answer this and some other e-mails before I did.

Thank-You Kristy ...Can Dementia strike that fast??? Wens. she was fine as far as her mind is concerned, Thurs. starting to see a difference a little, Friday a big difference...Saturday she is unresponsive...

Helen

Helen,

I read the post about your MIL and I wanted to comment on the

incomplete statements that you mentioned. She may have had a

very tiny stroke that didn't show up on the CT Scans. This

happened to my grandma in the 2 to 4 weeks that my grandma had

left to live. When they are demented it's hard for them to

complete statements and as the progression of the dementia gets

worse that can sometimes include not being able to respond at

all b/c of losing their ability to speak.

Please know that it's ok to give her permission to go. For as

much as we don't want our loved ones to die it's ok to tell them

to go b/c we don't want to see them suffer anymore.

We had to do this with my grandma. My therapist told me that it

was ok to say good-bye. She told us that we needed to make any

apologies if necessary as part of the process for saying

good-bye. We went to see my grandma the next morning (that Fri

a.m.) at about 10:15 and left around 12:00 p.m.

And during that time my mother said good-bye for both of us and

gave the apologies. My grandma with what little comprehension

she still had understood what my mother said and forgave her.

Later that nite we were called to come to the hospital to try

and encourage her b/c the drs and nurses were trying to revive

her. That nite even before we got up there she died. I saw her

after she died and she was at peace. As my mom stated all the

wrinkles that she had in her face before she died were gone.

Her face looked young and that was b/c she was at peace.

And please above all else don't be afraid to cry. Crying is a

natural part of the grieving process.

Please know I'm here if you need anything at all.

Helen,

Sad to say dementia can work that fast. It happened with my

grandma. For nearly 15 years we didn't know that this was what

we were dealing with and in then the last few weeks before my

grandma it was downhill from there.

The earlier it starts the faster the process goes, the later it

starts the longer the process. In my grandma's case we didn't

know it for a long time and this happens to some people.

Dementia affects some of the elderly different from others.

It could be that your MIL has been suffering from it for a while

and you all didn't know it until now like what happened with my

grandma.

There's an Alzheimer's/Dementia board at WebMD that is

excellent. I used it a lot during the time that I was dealing

with my grandma as her illness got more frustrating b/c we

didn't fully understand what we were dealing with.

Also, please be careful with the meds they give her b/c certain

meds can speed up the dementia process.

Hang in there sweetie. The reason that I'm up again is b/c of

my stomach.

I'm headed back to bed soon. Let me know if there's anything

else I can do for you.

Hi Helen,

What I am going to say may sound a little cruel, I'm very sorry, but it is also what i observed from my mum and read from a book:

As one goes through the path of living with a chronic illness, there comes a terminal stage. This does not refer to cancer only, but generally all chronic illnesses. There are tell-tale signs for such a stage. The person becomes bed-ridden, prone to infections, unable to control their bowel movements, and so on.... Then they become delirious and confused, sometimes recognising and then not recognising their family members. My mother experienced all these symptoms in the last month before she died. It was only later when I read a book on coping with the death of a loved one, that I realised what I had observed from my mum were all the tell-tale signs.

The best thing we as family can do is then to make them as comfortable as they can.

Please forgive me if I sound too harsh.... I just want to share what I experienced...

Helen,

Please keep an eye on her while she's on this medication. My

grandma had been like that for a time where the meds helped for

a while but then she got worse on them. And b/c her body

couldn't metabolize them anymore (as a result of liver failure

as it turned out) she got so bad that we couldn't get her out of

the house for fun even. Some medications tend to make dementia

a whole lot worse so please be careful.

Thanks for all the info... When I can get to the library I will look up the book...If we don't have it they will get it from another one...

MIL doing much better today !!!

How are you doing??? What did the Dr. say ???

{{{ Thanking Hugs }}}

Helen

Helen,

That part about the some days she knows you and then you go back

an hour later and she won't know you at all does make sense.

That's part of the dementia process. People who are demented

are often times Sundown Syndrome. What this means is that at

nite when you and I are asleep they are wide awake and thinking

that at 2 a.m. it's time to start getting ready for the new day

to start. Even just taking a very short nap can cause this sun

down sensation b/c each time they go to sleep and then wake up

in their minds they think it's a new day even though the day

isn't over yet.

Do you ever visit WebMD? If yes, visit the Alzheimer's board.

I know that she doesn't have Alzheimer's but this board will

help you learn a lot and help you understand even more in detail

what I'm talking about. Also the lady in charge of this board

is an RN that works a lot with patients who have dementia and

Alzheimer's. She wrote a book that I got about 3 months before

grandma died. I wish that I would have had the book when I

first started out this last year of her life.

Also, get in touch with the Alzheimer's Association's local

chapter in your area. I called on them often when things

started to get very difficult with my grandma b/c I ended up

being her primary care giver while my mom was at work. And when

we finally put her in Adult Daycare during the work week I slept

while she would be there and Mom at work. Grandma would come

home at about 3 p.m. and then I took care of her from the time

she got home until Mom got home. When Mom would come home I

would then go take a nap for about 3 or 4 hours and then stay up

all nite until 7 a.m. (that's when grandma would leave for

Daycare).

It was also quite a task to get my mother's brothers and her

niece to understand that she and I couldn't do it all by

ourselves. If we needed time to ourselves (Mom and I) and get

away for the weekend and we would ask them to help out they

would gripe. I would keep telling Mom that we needed to get

help from the cong but she felt that family should be first but

she understood later what I was talking about.

Yes, Helen, I know exactly what you all are dealing with and

Hospice will not only take very good care of your MIL in the

enviroment that she and hubby want her in but it will also give

you all a much needed break for a part of the day.

I've been in a lot of pain this a.m. that actually made me cry

so I'm headed to bed shortly before I call my dr at 11 to see

what she wants me to do the rest of this week.

Helen,

If I can save others from what I went thru by telling everyone

what to expect then it won't be so frustrating as the

progression goes on.

There are a lot of ups and downs with this thing and b/c of that

it will seem like for a time that all the meds are working great

but after a while they start making the process a lot more

difficult for the patient and their family. Each situation is

different.

Thanks Kristy, MIL is doing better Everyday :o) Dr's just don't understand it and neither do we, but we are Accepting it :o) Yes, Nursing Home is on his ins. plan... How are you doing???

{{{ Christmas Hugs }}}

Helen

Helen,

What Anne says is true but have your FIL talk to the ins company

any way b/c I think that sometimes special circumstances can

arise, and also if possible it's easier to do it that way than

the nursing home unless the nursing home that they put her in is

on the ins covered list. We had a big problem with this with my

grandma.

Take care,
