Guest guest
Hi all, A serious warning here. Yesterday I read a was adviced a.o. to use probiotics for her gas problems. Yesterday is also the day, probiotics were negatively in the news over here in Holland. There has been a research project in Holland (in 15 hospitals). Researched was whether probiotics would be helpfull in cases of serious pancreas infection. The research involved 300 patients. One half of the patients got treatment with probiotics, the other half without. In the group of patients treatet without probiotics 9 patients died. In the group of patients treatet with probiotics 24 patients died. The probiotics used were those that are used in drinks etc. that one can buy anywhere (Yakult, probiotic yoghurts etc.). Normally they are harmless and known for their positive effect on a person's health. This research started as earlier tests in less serious cases of infection showed very positive results and the research team expected to be able to help people with these probiotics, of which was thought they were harmless. The research team is absolutely shocked. It is unknown what the cause is of the high mortality rate amongst the patients in this research project. But the only thing thinkable right now is, that it has got something to do with the probiotics. Of course they are trying to find out the exact reason. So, if you have had serious surgery or other serious health issues/infections, I would NOT seak help in using probiotics. Love, Isabella Looking for last minute shopping deals?
