Well, I was diagnosed a few years ago with Achalasia and have been living with it since then. Over the past 4 months though it's been getting worse. I've been having more attacks which stop me from being able to swallow not just food but now it's been even water! It was only a few weeks ago that I had my most severe spasm/attack. I was just having a glass of water when I started choking and had to regurgitate it back up. A lovely site - not! On all other occassions I've been able to shrug it off within a relatively short period of time. Sometimes it's only been a few minutes and at worst it's been a few hours. This time, however, it was just on 24hrs.I called my GP and specialist and on their advice went to the RoyL Melbourne Hospital (, Australia) to the emergency dept. I was seen very quickly and was given a can of soft drink (soda - if you're in the USA) and managed to keep that down. It took about 75mins to consume the can entirely. I was asked to stay overnight for observation and did so. All was to work out OK.I've since had word from the hospital that I'm to undergo surgery this coming Tuesday. As per instructions, I've been on a liquid diet prior to going in and I'm quite excited for a new beginning. That not to say that I'm not a little nervous too though.Oh well, I'm sure it's all going to work out ok. Just a little cut to that little muscle to let the food down. That's all :)
