First off Thank you all soooo much for the replies. This is the first

site I have found where I have come in touch with other REAL people

who have had this disease. Its a horrible feeling when you feel like

your alone in this.

My son had the surgery done at UVA in Charllotsville Va 3 1/2 weeks

ago. He had the heller and the some kinda of wrap to prevent acid

reflux. Only a slight partial they said. We go back on the 30th of

Jan for them to do another endoscopy to check everything. They say

its all normal.Bull $hit! NO amount of swelling should be that bad

after 3 1/2 weeks. He also has this white thick foamy stuff that

comes up and wakes up in the morning with severe burning and pain in

his chest. We have rushed him back to hospital and they said it was

acid- WEll what was the procedure for if hes got symptoms now and

didnt before.Nothing is making sense. Some one mentioned DRs on this

site??? i AM NOT GOOD WITH THE COMPUTER( ACTUALLY USING MORE NOW

BECAUSE OF THIS) SO i HAVENT ANY DRS ON HERE. fOTR THOSE OF YOU

THAT HAD THIS--- ARE YOU EATING NORMALY NOW? hOW LONG AFTER DID IT

TAKE? They told him he would never eat pizza, hamburgers ,steak is

that true????? Thank you all agin from the bottom of my heart! You

all really have took a load off my chest just having someone to talk

to thats been thru this. Thanks again, Tonia

Your son is 40 years younger than me, so I don't know

if the results will be the same, but I had the heller

myotomny w dor fundo 9 months ago. Generally, I am

MUCH better, however, I still have the occasional

chest pain and my diet is not what used to be 'normal'

for me. I can eat pizza, but only 1 piece.

Hamburgers were my favorite foods but there are

difficult (but not impossible ) to get down even

without the bun. I have pretty much given up red meat

like steak because of the risk of getting stuck in the

E and fermenting.

But, I am glad I had the procedure. I've learned that

everyone see ems to be different and different people

react differently to each food . You & your son just

need to be aware of exactly what he eats and how his E

reacts to it.

Before the operation did your son regurgitate food?

I did and after the operation I don't, hardly ever.

BUT if food still gets stuck (remember the E still

doesn't work, the operation only gave the food

someplace to go) I now get a white foam regurgitated

instead of food. So maybe the foam is an improvement,

I don;t know. I only got foam after the operation.

But it shouldn't be burning, I'm wondering, is it a

chest pain? My chest pains have been lessened by the

surgery, but have not gone away. After the operation,

I don't know why, but the pains usually come between

3-6AM when before, the pains were fairly random.

How do they know it is acid? Did they test, so often

the knee jerk reaction to any E or stomach complaint

is to say " its acid " .

Keep us in touch

Tonia- My surgery was just December 5, and when I was having severe chest pains after the procedure, I assumed they were heartburn. My description to the group led to the conclusion that the pains were spasms. It sounds like you aren't getting the follow-up you need to help you and your son. Do you know how many Heller Myotomy procedures the surgeon had done before your son's? Have you spoken directly to the surgeon about your concerns? There are a lot of knowledgeable individuals at this site, and there are many of us who are just learning to deal with this disease ourselves, and using our experience to help others. I hope you find answers and comfort here. Jo toniasdogsandi <toniasdogsandi@...> wrote: First off Thank you all soooo much for the replies. This is the

Dear Tonia,I'd give up on your surgeons and that hospital.Go to this website... it is a summary of almost all medical articles. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgiType in achalasia and the other large teaching hospitals in your area. (Sorry, I'm a West coaster and not familiar with the cities close to you.) You absolutely need to find an achalasia and esophagus specialist. Carolyn is a great resource, take her up on all her offers. In my opinion, the earlier a proper procedure is done, the more likely there is a successful long term result. With your son so young... I'd emphasize a good surgeon even though he is a pediatric patient. Chances are slim you will find a well-experienced pediatric surgeon in achalasia. Take the adult surgeon with assistance perhaps from a pediatric surgeon. Many of us cheated and tried out a difficult food within the first 2 weeks and were able to eat it. Your son should be having no problems, except perhaps spasms. About white foam... someone else was posting about this. Although it seems like doctors don't really address this, many of us feel it is saliva mixed with air. It comes back up, making the white foam if the sphincter is too tight. Not a good sign. If there is white foam that tastes acidy, then it could be mixed with reflux. Seems unusual there is white foam mixed with reflux though. Normal white foam is pretty tasteless... just saliva. That foam easily aspirates, causing coughing. Start over with your doctors... I'm absolutely shocked they are blowing you off. Doctors will call you back. I don't remember anyone having such trouble right after surgery. To find the doctor database, go to the home page for this group and click in the light green area on files. Not all doctors are there, but most of them are. (Nag, if you haven't done so, please type in your doctor, ask one of us to do it if you don't know how, even a bad one.)Achalasia can be depressing and very isolating for even those of us who have been through other problems making us wise. The emotional pressure on your son can be more damaging than the actual disease. Those surgeons did the best they could, they didn't mean harm and they may be very charming, but sure seems like they aren't well experienced. Call and email, even sending copies of your email to the doctors on the list. Even if you don't go to them, they are very informative. If you have good insurance, you might mention that. Of course we don't know your financial situation, but going to the right doctor is more important now than vacations or a new car for your son. Many of us have kids and can't imagine our kids going through this, that may be why we are being so passionate with you.Sandy in So Cal.>> First off Thank you all soooo much for the replies. This is the first > site I have found where I have come in touch with other REAL people > who have had this disease. Its a horrible feeling when you feel like > your alone in this.> > My son had the surgery done at UVA in Charllotsville Va 3 1/2 weeks > ago.
