Healthnet should have a list of doctors that are in network. Their

customer service agents should be able to look this up for you. Have

you tried their website?

I assume your GP takes Healthnet? Have you asked your GP to recommend

anyone? Did you ask your GI? Usually it's the GI that referrs you to

the surgeon isn't it?

I have never personally dealth w/ Healthnet (aside from their

mailroom), but if this isn't something their customer service agents

can tell you, I would consider looking for another carrier.

Oops, I just re-read part of that, and wanted to make sure to point to

your GI. Your GI should know which surgeons in the area are capable of

performing this surgery and which he/she would recommend above others

too. You may want to just fax the list to your GI?

As I'm sure anyone else on this list would suggest as well, take a

look at the surgeon befor you dive in, ok? It may not be wise to just

go with a surgeon because they're the only one your insurance will

cover. I'm sure you can dispute based on experience.

Where are you located, Richie? Is there a teaching/research hospital

close to you? If yes, then it might be wise to contact that facility

first.

Richie -, I do not know what is going on in the health system in the

US, but it sounds really bad.

I am in NZ and am going to a private surgeon since I have insurance

and it will cost much less than $5000 usd more like $3000 usd

depending on how many days in hospital I stay etc

However If I went public I would likely get the same surgeon as he

works as the public hospital as well (he is a professor at the

medical school) and this would be completely free for nz citzens and

I would only wait a few months.

The surgeon even mentioned his sister inlaw came to nz for an

operation from the US this year as she saved a lot of money.

This does not really help you , but I think the citizens of the US

should start asking who is making so much money from health as

something is rotten when it costs approx $60k usd in amercia and $5k

usd elsewhere in the world .
