Guest guest
Good point! I would just like to narrow this down and see if I can figure out which allergen is getting me and avoid it!! It might not "cure" achalasia, but it would make it alot easier to live with ;-) Martha throat constriction I have been skimming through, so I might have misunderstood or forgotten what the original message was, but regarding allergic reactions and "throat constriction" and A, throat constriction is one of many signs/symptoms of an allergic reaction to many "allergens". Simply put, when I tell a home care patient what signs and symptoms to report immediately--rash, itching, hives, etc. AND/OR when to call 911--throat tightening-or constriction, difficulty breathing/shortness of breath--the throat constriction can occur in the upper throat/tongue/pharynx area from swelling/edema OR constriction of the large or small airways like asthma. This can be life threatening, usually it requires immediate emergency treatment. Usually there are other presenting symptoms but it can happen suddenly without warning. I'm not saying an "allergic reaction" couldn't affect the LES--what I'm saying is the throat constriction in allergic reaction is intrinsic, the allergen sets up a process inside the body. Failure of the LES to relax is different than that, even though one may feel constriction--I know I have had that happen many times. Guest guest
Martha - your physician may not be familiar with this testing facility, but I have had several allergy tests run through the Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab. They mail your blood there & it tests for all sorts of stuff. it is a lot easier than traditional testing & very thorough. You can get more info on www.gsdl.com. Guest guest
Yes, have done lots of testing on my son through Great Smokies. They do a great service. I just wish our naturopath had ordered testing on food additives and preservatives! He tested for 100 foods, and Sam reacted to 97/100 of them! Sounds like you must be in a similar boat! Have you ever been tested for sulfites sensitivity??? Guest guest
I haven't been tested for sulfites that I know of. Poor Sam! How old is he? (you probably said). I have very high allergies to dairy, seafood, citrus, most proteins....and mild allergies to just about everything else including spices/vanilla. It was through these tests that we found my daughter's mild reaction to wheat/gluten. Then further testing revealed she had full-blown celiac disease.
