Guest guest
So I am taking wrong medication ??? Pffff, it has made me feel better for a few days but I am also more tired. I think I am going to make an appointment with my reg. doc right away. Hopefully she still has an empty spot tomorrow morning. Just called. she has a spot at 10:30 tomorrowmorning. I'll explain my situation to her and hopefully she'll subscribe me something else. Thank you so much for this information, Debbi. I will write down the names of the meds you mentioned and maybe she knows what I am talking about. I just want to get rid of the stress/down/depressed feeling. Hugs, Biancka Re: My doc Biancka, please be careful w/ the Oxazepam -- it's in a class called Benzodiazepines, which is a different from the SSRI's that are prescribed for depression. Oxazepam is NOT an "anti-depressant"! It is a "sedative" or "anti-anxiety" medication -- it's prescribed to calm someone down when they're anxious/upset. Since you're already sleeping too much, you should NOT be taking a sedative -- that could wind up making you feel WORSE instead of better. I found this information which you should be aware of:Controlled studies have shown that eating diets low in calories, protein, and carbohydrates can reduce the elimination of oxazepam from the body and increase the amount of time it remains in the blood.2 3 On the other hand, research indicates that certain foods, such as Brussels sprouts and cabbage, might reduce blood levels of oxazepam and increase the removal of the drug.4 Further research is needed to determine whether certain foods and diets can result in significant changes in the effectiveness or safety of oxazepam. also this (I remember you mentioned asthma before):tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially antihistamines; digoxin (Lanoxin); levodopa (Larodopa, Sinemet); medication for depression, seizures, Parkinson's disease, pain, asthma, colds, or allergies; muscle relaxants; oral contraceptives; phenytoin (Dilantin); probenecid (Benemid); rifampin (Rifadine); sedatives; sleeping pills; theophylline (Theo-Dur); tranquilizers; and vitamins. These medications may add to the drowsiness caused by oxazepam. I remember you also mentioned being concerned about taking antidepressant medication b/c you didn't want to become addicted. Oxazepam is considered to be habit-forming (addictive), whereas many/most of the SSRI-type drugs don't have that problem. More detailed info is available here: http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/drugs_view/0,1524,468,00.html Oxazepam isn't going to make you feel "better" -- it's going to drug you into a stupor so you aren't aware of how you feel, and it can affect your ability to care for your son. I usually find relatively good information about various drugs here:http://www.mentalhealth.com/ -- click on "medications" on the left side of the page, then surf through the list. (NOTE: Not all the drugs are "officially" used for mental health... be sure to read the Pharmacology and Indications headings to make sure it's used to treat depression!) Some suggestions to discuss w/ your doctor: Amitriptyline ; Citalopram Hydrobromide ; Venlafaxine ; Nortriptyline ; Paroxetine ; Sertraline ; Protriptyline. (brand names and availability will vary) Please look into this... you deserve the RIGHT treatment!Debbi in MI For now, things are a bit better. I do still have that choking feeling but it looks like I am getting used to it. I am also taking oxazepam (anti-depressant meds) which do calm me down. It was an old prescription so I have to go to my regular doc for a new batch. Not sure if she will give me some though. But....I still have 2 weeks before I run out. It is all a waiting-game now. I had such high hopes when I had given birth that I would be eating again soon. 6 months later and I still am not eating like I was before my pregnancy. Wonder if I ever will (even my doc today said again 'no garantuees') Grrrrr. Hugs, Biancka Attachment: vcard [not shown]
