Genia,

I had a wrap after suffering for years from terrible acid reflux disease. Before the surgery, the surgeon warned me that after having the fundoplication done, I would not be able to burp or to throw up. The first one meant that I had to forgo drinking carbonated beverages and/or beer. I did like having a beer now and then, especially while enjoying college basketball games that I'm a real nut for, but having acid reflux was worse.

And I never particularly enjoyed throwing up anyway. This past weekend I had a stomach virus which was passed on to me from my husband and kids. This was the first test of how it is going to be not being able to throw up. I did wretch just a little, but then it was as if my body just gave up and I just had to wait the virus out for it to pass. Since it was "gastro-intestinal", I did eventually get rid of the food that was in my system. All in all, it was'nt too terribly bad. I tell you this because it is much worse to have acid reflux waking you up at night than the aggrivation of not being able to throw up when a virus hits.

Sorry to go on for so long.........., just one person's experience with both acid reflux/ and "wrap" in your surgery.

Genia,

Good luck on your surgery. I have a partial wrap, and I am pleased with

mine. It's 2.4 years old. No reflux, I eat anything. Sleep flat. Everything

goes down with some water. It depends on your doctor, I think. It's a

judgement call about how tight to make it. My doctor told me that he made it

pretty loose, but it is a partial wrap. Hope everything goes well. Stock up on

movies, books, etc. and get ready to enjoy your recuperation period!

Genia, Suzi, and all

I’ve actually been scared to death

about getting sick and vomiting, but I don’t vomit any more when I get

sick. I just get sick at the other end now, which to me is much better than

vomiting. I had surgery almost 2 years ago and had a dor

fundoplication.

Hi,

I'm getting ready to have surgery and from

what I am reading it

doesn't look like getting a wrap is a good idea.

If I should get

reflux, dealing with it with meds looks better.

The whole idea of not

being able to throw up when you get the flu sounds

terrible.

I am not positive if I am getting a wrap until

he's in there, he'll

make that decision then.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have a partial wrap. I'm very happy with it.

I would rather be a little uncomfortable on that

rare occasion if I have the flu than have reflux.

I sleep flat no reflux.
