Guest guest
Thank you for your answers. Yes, Alison was a VERY PICKY eater, in fact, she was a non eater at all for nearly two years (preemie plus cancer). She had had a Gtube to start with and infections in the mouth due to chemio. She was on a drip for months, two on total parenteral nutrition. Feeding her was an unbelievable job: I could not force her, but she had to have something. She was very small and thin and underweight for a long time. At the time I did not know she was also dyspraxic, which accounted for the fact she could not suck or chew, but I refused to use a G tube and persevered. Then she got better but would puke food like rice or purea. She refuse to touch any food for the first year at kindergarten. Now she is OK, just does not want veg and other food, but since she started taking EFA (Efalex fisrt, then ProEFA) her appetite doubled. She has NEVER eaten that much. She put on 4 kg in three months. She has also started trying different food. I had not thought about mouth sensitivity, but now you mention it, it may well be. Yesterday I asked her pediatrician, who is in favour of EFA (takes EFA himself), -while the NP was completely clueless- and he attributes the hunger to the EFA, too. He says EFA supplements improve metabolism and general health as well. I can tell you my friends are amazed at seeing Alison eating now!! Hope it helps somebody else, thanks again Simonetta, Milan, Italy
