For all you Interferon people I just found this in the Monterey County Herald

Newspaper, May 18. I personally do not take it, so I know nothing about it,

but it might mean something to those of you who do.

A recent Maxygen experiment suggests it could improve by a stunning

200,000-fold the potency of alpha interferon, and important cancer and

antibiral drug that forces doctors to limit doses because of toxicity.

The rest of the article talks about biotechnology companies and how they are

conducting high-speed evolution in test tubes to create everything from super

laundry detergents to novel drugs. It's called direct evolution and could be

one of the most important steps in biotechnology since genetic engineering.

Did you notice in the Dr. Cheney post his discussion Doxepin since

you wrote earlier about problems with pollens I thought that this might

interest you.

Doxepin -an antidepressant with anti-histaminic properties

Has anyone had experience with this drug. In the past I have

responded well to large doses of anti-histamines but I have only tried

claritin and benadryl. My best responce was with benadryl but the responce

dissappeared as the weather got warmer. As many of you know the big

difference between benadryl and the new antihistamines such as Clariton is

that benadryl get past the blood

brain barrier. This can be bad new since it can make you drowsy but

if you need anti-histamines in your central nervious system it can be very

good news (naturally it is taken at night). I am very interested in hearing

from anyone who has tried this drug.

thanks so much for posting the Cheney lecture. I think it would be great if

we could have some dispassionate discussion of the issues raised. I have

already post a question on doxipin and I hope folk will respond. I would now

like some information on Taurine. to make things simple ( becaus my impaired

brain needs things simple) I have pasted the quote on Tuarine in this

message. Can someone tell be how you get Taurine and anything else they

know " the Cheney quote is as follows:

Taurine is very important in brain protection. It's kind of

interesting--cats that don't eat taurine go blind. They can't make taurine,

they can only eat it. It's only found in meat. If you put cats on a

vegetarian diet, they go blind, because taurine is essential for retinal

function, and the retina's just dies in the absence of taurine. Taurine

could be an important issue in some of these patients.

Doxequin is Sinequan. The generic name is doxepin hydrochloride and it also

goes by another brand name, Adapin. You shouldn't use it with MAO inhibitors.

I just started Doxy yesterday and I am still fatigued but that awful poison

feeling is diminished and I associate that feeling with histamine in the

central nervous system. Benadryl did the same thing for me last winter but

then it quit working.

sounds familiar but I'll have to do some questioning among drs, it looks

like ti is not imported to my country anymore. I hope I'll have more luck

Many of the tricyclic antidepressants have antihistamine properties. I think

what these drugs do is get the antihistamine into the CNS. Benadryl also

does this and you might want to experiment by taking about 250 mg of

Benadryl a day. I did this last winter I really started to recover. However

I lost this recovery when the weather got warm. The Benadryl will make you

sleepy at first but if you need to have antihistamines in your CNS you will

notice a difference right away and the drowsy symptoms will diminish. As

soon as I read about Sinequan I call be Dr. This drug was not immediately

available so I started out on a similar drug. I did not really take away the

fatigue but it did take away that awful sick poison feeling that goes along

with the fatigue.
