Guest guest
Dear Parents: I wonder if any of you would be willing to share your thoughts on why or why you did not become your child's guardian? I'm getting some other things in line for and I'm still torn on this. Thanks,
Guest guest
We listened to a lot of experts in the field, lawyers, advocates. The decision for us was not at all clear cut. At this point we have not taken guardianship for our 23 year old son. We know there are risks, but we are not ready yet to make that move. There are other less invasive moves that are more favorable to us, power of attorney over various matters. Guardianship is so final, it seems more difficult to remove it than add to it. Adam has a very public life, work etc. he also is very healthy. and I assume someday that might be a decision we will end of doing.
Guest guest
Hi , I chose to get guardianship for my 19 yo son with autism. What I was told by an attorney, was with power of attorney my son could verbally revoke the power of attorney as long as another witness was present (person 18 or over). He lacks social skills and would be an easy target. To remove guardianship, my understanding is that you just have to go to court again and agree to remove it. Good Luck, guardianship Dear Parents: I wonder if any of you would be willing to share your thoughts on why or why you did not become your child's guardian? Guest guest
Hi : For our son Rick, we have guardianship. We did not have any problem making this decision for him. We knew it was in the best interest of Rick. Our daughter andra may be another issue. Currently she is 16, soon to be 17, and we are not sure if we will have guardianship or power of attorney. andra has Autism.  She is quite a bit more independent, and we believe, will be able to hold a job etc.  From: sunshinebeaches3@... <sunshinebeaches3@...> Subject: guardianship ipaddunite Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 8:01 PM  Dear Parents: I wonder if any of you would be willing to share your thoughts on why or why you did not become your child's guardian? Guest guest
Well, I learned something today! Every county handles the annual reporting differently? Where’s the ‘streamlining government’ in that? Thanks , L. From: N Rubin Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2011 10:01 PM IPADDUnite Subject: Re: Re: guardianship Not all Counties send you the form. Many have it online, or the attorney who handled the Guardianship normally supplies the form. Also, not all Counties require the annual report. Further, some counties require it not every year, but rather every two, or every three years. Guest guest
We live in Cook County and the only requirement of which I am aware, is that we file an update with the court...there is a specific form that we fill out and send in every year. I will see if it is online later today. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...

They must do things different up north, because they don't do that in Madison County. For the first two years, the lawyer we used sent a reminder, but nothing since then. Nothing from the court. I did file a letter last year, because I had gotten a copy of a paper from a friend of mine. Liz
