always assuming i was talking about my brain injury,

or any injury to myself at all (i dont remember what i

was talking about yesterday), no, as far as we know

they're not viral related. i have an oxygen

deprivation injury, and was born with my skull

fractured (i'm thinking someone crunched my head

pretty hard, since baby bones are flexible and

difficult to break). i had my first seizure when i

was two hours old,(and have had from 50 to 100 a day

since then) and i have no proprioception. i dont

understand internal physical cues. the pathway's not

there evidentally.

1. What are the cat scans revealing and or neurospect?

2. Have you thought of hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

i'd have to ask someone else for all of the

details...because i honestly dont know all of the

different types of tests i had when i was little, or

how conclusive they were. i do know i've had mri's,

that show abnormal areas ( i want to say atrophy, but

i think thats the wrong word?), and i had a test that

measured brain activity, not an eeg, although i've had

a bunch of those. the display showed different areas

coded by color...i have no idea what that was

called??? different colors/tones stood for different

activity levels.i think. that also showed areas of

just..dead brain. there are sections of my brain where

apparantly nothing is going on. i was little when i

had most of these tests, and i didnt understand very

much about them. results would have been gibberish to

me then and i havent thought to ask now...my last mri

included vascular studies and didnt show anything

abnormal there. (correct any terminology i mangle

anyone)

i know there is scarring on my brain, that i do

understand :) and area's that show old bleeding

damage. i assume from getting my head squished when i

was a baby.

the list of effects all this has is

just..huge...seizures, lack of proprioception,

hyperreflexia,hypertonia,blah blah blah..i have no

math ability. literally. none. i count on my fingers

and cant do much more than basic second grade addition

and subtraction. and i cant learn it.

> 2. Have you thought of hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

i remember that being discussed, and then

contraindicated for some other health reason, though

im unsure what it was. it was a few years ago. i have

tried all of the diets, and ended up a lot sicker than

seizures made me, i've tried biofeedback, but because

i dont interpret internal cues, it didnt work well for

me. you have to be able to clue in to what your body's

doing for that kind of thing to work i guess. we've

tried all kinds of megadoses of supplements (bad

reactions) all kinds of drug combinations, anything

that didnt actively quack on its own we tried :)

i think the word they have for me is " intractible "

Actually Hep B wasn't the one I denied...they have a brand new one that they

are just starting to recommend, unfortunately the name escapes me right now.

And of course, sex is not the only way to get Hep and I work in a health

field.

All of the things you point out are of great interest and I'll be happy to

discuss them with my new team of docs at the Penn Epilepsy Center.

well...if this sounds sketchy, i just got woke up by a

killer nightmare, and im on here unrattling, so

disregard any weird reference to teeth or yelling

voices :) 1 am...whoo.

ok...the way it works with me....anything external

seems to be normal. for example, if i cut my foot, it

hurts, i know i cut it, etc. i would pull my hand away

from something hot, and i know when i'm getting a

sunburn.

but..if i get a headache, i dont know it. i know

somethings wrong, something doesnt feel right, and

after years and years of training, i've learned to

" find " it. sort of " ok..somethings different. is it

pain? yes it's pain. where is it? is it in my

stomach...no. is it in my head? yes. "

just that first question, is it pain? can be almost

impossible sometimes to answer. if there's something

more unusual going on. is it pain? no. what is it?

where is it? if i cant find it i spend a lot of time

miserable over things i cant identify.

over the years those types of things have gotten a

little better, but i still have to do the hunt and

find often. usually the biggest effect is

understanding cues though. knowing when i'm hungry,

knowing when to go to the bathroom (sorry). nausea's a

tough one and if there's a stomach virus around people

tend to stay away from me :) i cant figure out whats

going on fast enough usually and people get thrown up

on. oops.

the most frustrating thing is that i cant really learn

to interpret these things. the pathway isnt there. i

can ..well i'll use the stomach thing as an example, i

can go through the whole routine and finally realize

that that feeling meant i was about to be sick...but

the next time it happens i dont recognize it. its not

something that i seem to have any retention of. even

day to day things that i have to constantly pay

attention to i dont recognize. im on a schedule for a

lot of things :-\

i also have trouble with where my body is in space.

thats not as bad as it used to be, but i used to have

a lot of trouble knowing if i was rightside up or

upside down.standing or sitting, stable or

falling...it was hard to be sure. i'd suddenly be

grabbing for balance because i couldnt tell if i was

standing or not. i still do that....most of the time i

do alright but sometimes i have to stop and reorient

myself.

Personal angle heh? Ok here goes...

My son's systems of propreoception are so bad we have

had to integrate all of his systems to work better. According

to Dr Judith Bluestone, she says my son was functioning on

the " just breathing system " , therefore he couldn't pay

attention to body in space, what was coming through

the ocular nerves, what was coming through his hearing etc.

I implore that this system she devised helped my kids, gentle

excercises to reintegrate and train the brain again...

i went to the glossary on that site and found a

definition of proprioception..which i already knew. is

there something else on one of the other links? and if

so, which one? there are a LOT of things on that

site! wow.

I too am removing myself from this list. I have epilepsy, that's it. I was

just looking for support and maybe a little advice. I did not find either on

who actually speaks about epilepsy!! I too am very tired of hearing about my

fillings/ mercury, etc... for this reason I am no longer staying on this

list. Please feel free to contact me on my personal e-mail,

callie2@...

Thanks,

Tricia
