Check with your state department of education and ask them how many other school divisions are doing the same. There's a great legal firm in Boston that works on behalf of children with disabilities. Do you mind if I send your email to them and ask what they think of this? Cheryl

Judy, I believe this is illegal. A similiar situation was occurring in Braxton County, West Virginia 6-7 years ago and medicaid finally pulled the plug. I'd attach the part of IDEA that states every child is entitled to a FAPE. Maybe Kent is more familiar with the Braxton County issue than I am. That was not where we lived. Medicaid will pay for services in a residential treatment facility, but should not reimburse the schools. Call your Medicaid provider and perhaps write to your politicians. Guest guest
Maddie goes to an approved private school. They do indeed have her MA number so that if they need to bill them for certain therapies not covered by the SD, they will take that route. Guest guest
Hi JUdy, I have never received anything like that! Kathy MA pays for IEP services? Hi, Today I received a letter from the Special Ed Supervisor. Guest guest
I have never been asked for 's SSN# or insurance info at any school. Kathy Re: MA pays for IEP services? IKathy MediCal will pay for 2 speech sessions per month(2 hours I believe) and the schools bill them. That is why most of our kids get about 30 minutes a week! That is one of the reasons they ask for insurance, MediCal, and Social Security # " s on our enrollment papers. And you thought it was in case got hurt at school ; ) & Garry, parents of (11 ds), (10 ds), JJ (7 ds/autism/celiac), (7 ds/ADHD/Celiac), and Esther (4 ds). Guest guest
On the emergency card - I have been asked for his Dr. name, address, and phone number. At this school there is no student ID (too few children maybe) Hmmm. . . Do you think because it is a private school the school district pays???? Even for - I have never been asked for his SSN but I have been asked for the doc info and the ID # on the insurance card.(his dads SSN#) Re: MA pays for IEP services? Kathy, Our school uses the SS# as student ID#. And the insurance/MediCal #'s goes on the emergency info card. Guess every district is different. & Garry, parents of (11 ds), (10 ds), JJ (7 ds/autism/celiac), (7 ds/ADHD/Celiac), and Esther (4 ds). All adopted. Guest guest
All the information that you fill out about the child, whether it's on the doctor's, school, activities that their in, etc. it all asks the same stuff. It's for emergency incase the kid was in an accident or something happenened to them- they know a little about the child. ===== My turn to learn is an invaluable guide for parents and professional who share their lives with a child with special needs. __________________________________________________

That means they can charge MA for therapies. A study by someone (it will come to me after some sleep) has shown that kids in Wisconsin receiving therapies through schools and billed to MA are getting more refusals for private therapy. Personally I'd hold off signing it and see if they make a fuss. I wonder if they can withhold therapy if you refuse to have MA pay for it? If you have private insurance, that has to be billed before Medicaid can be billed. You may have a lifetime cap on services, so be careful. Also, they can charge for sign off by a medical professional who won't even see your child. Be careful, very careful.

Even when MA wasn't being billed they ask for a prescription from the child's dr. before they will provide services. For school services private insurance generally refuses to pay and MA then steps up. I don't like it and if they attempted it with I would question it thoroughly.
