Well, I ran upstairs to our media cabinet and found " Riding the Bus with My

Sister " , " Mr. Holland's Opus " , and " The Other Sister " . Of course, there's

also " Rain Man " . And those are just a few I can think of in five minutes.

I've always loved " Cannery Row " with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger. It's from

1982. I remember because that was the year I met my husband and I was newly

" in love " :-). You may to reach with that movie but it definitely about lots

of people with different challenges.

Stretching it a bit and depending on the message the teacher is working to

convey that day, I've always thought loved Disney movies where the

main character became " real " and got to talk. which he can't do . like

Pinocchio.

Subject: movie list with characters that have a disability

Previously someone posted a movie list that I cannot find now. My son

responded very positively to watching some of these movies. I can't find it

now and wonder if it could be posted again. I'd be most appreciative. It's

been a wonderful way to start talking/understanding about his diagnosis. His

high school teacher is interested now too. Much thanks!

Just off the top of my head, in addition to the others mentioned: " Sam I Am " and

" Mercury Rising " (MR, filmed in Chicago about ten? years ago--car chases--they

closed down the Kennedy to film that--and a friend of mine's son, , was a

'consultant'-notice the child actor playing a kid with autism, circling stuff on

the sports page?--that's in a nutshell!). There is also another

autism-centered one--the name escapes me--something about a house of cards.

There was a new one about an Aspie that came out this summer--can't remember the

name.

My son loved Forrest Gump! The one that comes to mind from the list is " Killer

Diller " that my son keeps requesting from Blockbuster. " killer diller " is what

the main character said if he really loved something. He especially loved the

tantrums showing the main character out of control and that eating tomatoes was

the only thing to calm him down.

Subject: Re: movie list with characters that have a disability

Just off the top of my head, in addition to the others mentioned: " Sam I Am " and

" Mercury Rising " (MR, filmed in Chicago about ten? years ago--car chases--they

closed down the Kennedy to film that--and a friend of mine's son, , was a

'consultant' -notice the child actor playing a kid with autism, circling stuff

on the sports page?--that' s in a nutshell!). There is also another

autism-centered one--the name escapes me--something about a house of cards.

There was a new one about an Aspie that came out this summer--can' t remember

the name.

responded very positively to watching some of these movies. I can't find it now

and wonder if it could be posted again. I'd be most appreciative. It's been a

wonderful way to start talking/understandi ng about his diagnosis. His high

school teacher is interested now too. Much thanks!
