Guest guest
Hello, I just returned froma 9 day adventure at the International Aids Conference in Toronto. There were over 30,000 people representing over 170 different coutries. I spend the week absorbing, information, facts, opinions and saw first hand what can be accomplished if we continue to work together. I saw countless creative solutions to soul crushing poverty/HIV. I am inspired to continue on my corse ad continue to reach out to others work with others " Spiders United Can Down a Lion " I am a professional artist and I also teach " at-risk-youth " grades 7-12. I teach History, Social Studies, Current Events, World Religions, Nutrition & Cooking. I use art as a method to teach many of my subjects and exploring other cultures through the process of art. I have been part of many teams leading these " at-risk " youth on humanitrian mission in developing countries, building schools, house, engaging in community art projects and making community connections. One of the reason I wanted to attend this conference was to gain first hand knowledge about what is being done globally to address HIV/Poverty. I wanted to see how other NGO's are operating and how people are creating self-sustaining community development programs. I want to include my student in these solution and have them develop an interest in educating themselves and then educating others. I want them to feel like they can be part of the solution and working together, overcoming differences and focusing on the common good is something all people should participate in. I want them to forget about the market place and focus on the human race. To understand that many people struggle to survive and that we all have a responsiblity to one another, reguardless where we are born. I would like to partner with other organizations and build global community bonds. *TREE OF LIFE MOSAIC The other big reason I wanted to attend this confernce was because I wanted to collect " Leaves " from people. I designed a leaf template and asked people attending the conference to create a personal leaf expressing themselves however they wished. " Save The Children " area at the conference let me use a table in their space to collect the art. (thank you ) I put art supplies on the table, 30 different colored sharpies, water color pencils, oil pastels and paint brushes. People came and rested, created a leaf, and we exchanged information. I had a wonderful time meeting so many different people. I would like to thank those who particated. I also took many photos at the conference. These photo images, leaves and other items will be worked into a large Tree of Life Mosaic mural that will convey the theme of the conference and address the problem of HIV/Poverty in a hopeful manner. The root system of the tree will focus on the neccesary elements to have a strong fountaion for a healthy community. I plan on educating my students and then trainig some to work as studios assistants putting this piece togther. I will be able to show this at my local gallery but would also like to find other venues for this piece. I would also like to partner with other groups and work their artwork into community murals. Using this techique to educate, inform and involve a community, address public health and social issues. Please review my website. The Tree mural on the home page is simular to my current project. I will give you a good idea how I can incorporate images, text, photos, artwork, stained glass, found images into the work. It over laid with clear glass, grouted with sanded grount and then painted and sealed. I would like to take this finished piece to the 2008 conference in Mexico City and collect art for another community project. I would love to answer any question, give more details on the project or receive constructive critisism or advice. Thank you, Blessings www.annameyrickstudios.com
