Hi Tessa,

When my son, Jonah, had his sling surgery, he easily would have been ready for travel just a couple of days after surgery. I would imagine it just depends on the job your surgeon does and on how well your child responds. Hope that helps you...

blepharophimosis recovery from 1st op

Hi thereBipin's first surgery (temporary slings) at Moorfields was postponed a few weeks ago because he had a cough. We now have a new date, but it's only 8 days before we go away to Spain on holiday. The secretary that I spoke to said that they usually recommend that the patient doesn't travel for at least 2 weeks after the op, but I don't think she necessarily knew about his specific case or how his recovery might be. So my question is - from other people's experience of this op on a 1 year old , what do you think the possibilities of infection might be? can you think of any other reasons why it's best not to travel? We're reluctant to postpone it again as it could well take another 3 months to get rescheduled. Thanks for your help!Tessa

Hi Tessa

My daughter, Kirsten (3), had her slings done at Moorfields when she

was just over 2 years old. I kept her out of nursery school for 2

weeks post-op and afterwards felt one week would have been enough.

Be prepared to put ointment in his eyes regularly and be aware of

photophobia. This would be the case at home or in Spain. Whether you

dip him into the pool to ankle or chest height is up to you. Enjoy

your holiday!

Hi,

Our daughter Caylie had her slings done just before her 1st birthday.

We had a trip to Ixtapa, Mexico booked for just a short time after

(about a week and a half I think). The Dr. thought it would be good for

healing because of the humidity, and it was. We were careful about not

having her get her eyes wet in the pool or the ocean, but she healed

really well, and we had no worries on our trip.

On another note, while we were in Spain last summer, I became really ill

(I thought you only needed to be careful about salads in Mexico....). I

don't know where you are staying (we were in Garrucha when I became ill,

but other wise we travelled the coast around to Gibraltar), but the

hotel sent a Dr right to the room, and he was wonderful. If you do run

into any trouble (which I doubt would happen), I'm sure you can find a

Dr that will help you with what you need until you get home.

I LOVED Spain....have a great trip, and best of luck with the surgeries!
