Guest guest
Hi Alison Vent away!! Children can be so hurtful. Apparently when I was little kids used to ask me if I was blind and I just belted them, probably not the best technique but it seemed to work J. My 3 year old daughter does not have BPES but I explain to her that all people are different and you shouldn’t be nasty to those who are different. I think you’ve said the right thing however lame you think it sounds. Bets of luck Bryony From: blepharophimosis [mailto:blepharophimosis ] On Behalf Of rainamint@... Aedan is 3. Playing in the playground today these boys he was attempting to play with stared at him and told him his face looks like a monsters'. I stood back to see how aedan would react and he growled and screamed at them, taking the role quite seriously I guess. We talked later about what he could do if someone says something mean to him, I told him he could get help or walk away. But I admit it sounds a bit lame. -- No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Sorry that happened. I normally go over and explain to the "little brats" that there is nothing wrong with their sight and they just look a little differetnt than you. If that doesn't make a difference i will remove my child from the situation. rainamint@... wrote: I need to vent and ask again..What do we tell our little ones to do when they are confronted with mean comments from kids about the way they look. Guest guest
I normally don't respond to these emails but found this one tugged at my heart... Unfortunately, you can not avoid the wicked words of others - this was something i struggled with myself as a child. I am now 29 years old, married and settled. However, I still face the ridicule of others. To this day i still get snide remarks from adults in public regarding my "squinty" eyes. Hurtful, yes but it builds a good strong character. You learn quickly as a child that the world isn't perfect and even more-so as an adult. I don't have much advise to give on the situation, except to hang in there and let your child know that they are loved, beautiful, and important regardless of their eyes. They will overcome this obstacle and in the realm of things its not going to end the world; but it will make them a better person and will allow them to impact others lives in a more positive light.rainamint@... wrote: I need to vent and ask again..What do we tell our little ones to do when they are confronted with mean comments from kids about the way they look. This was always a HUGE concern of mine. 's way of dealing with any questions or looks ahs been to reply " I have bleparophimosis " Most kids have no clue what eactly that means and would look kinda dumfounded say OK and all would be well. >
Guest guest
Hello Tammie, Maybe this might be helpful. when your 3 year old daughter calls someone a name. Immediately say that hurts feelings, tell her to: " say something nice " or you will go to the time out chair. give her a choice of what she wants to do. maybe at first she might need verbal help with saying something nice instead of calling bad names. also, what caused her to call out bad names? maybe she can be shown another way of handling her feelings when something goes wrong. If you tell her. No more candy, and she calls you a bad name. explain to her a more appropriate way of dealing with that situation. Hope this was helpful. Tammie <trloe06@...> wrote: I have an almost 3 yr old daughter with an AS diagnosis. As most of you know things come and go that we deal with our kids. Our problem of the week is " name calling " She is the one doing the name calling and we are about at wits end on how to stop it. Ex. You need to stop doing xyz....... her reply you little poney do or you gor dee. The words aren't even words and sometimes they are. I have tried time out chair and explaining we don't call names but it is getting constant everytime she is corrected. Her vocabulary is VERY good and she is very smart. Any helpful insight?
