Guest guest
Hi there and welcome to the group. I'm not sure of your name (Chinita) or where you come from but welcome. I hope you enjoy reading all the postings and find this group very supportive. I do not post as much as I did when I first discovered the site a year ago after searching the web. I have found the group very supportive and thoroughly enjoyed meeting some members of the group in December 2005 in London. I was unable to make the meeting this time as the earlier train from the north east to london arrives around 11.30, which was too late to meet. Anyway, I was very consious about what other people thought of me and how I looked very different in my early teens when all teenagers worry about what they look like but when I reached 16 years old, I became very confident and have been very outgoing ever since, I am 29 years old now. My parents have always been very supportive and I thought I could do anything in life which, once I was older, i realised I could. I work as a social worker now and meet different people everyday and no one ever mentions the BPES, they ask about many other things like, have you got children and where do you live etc but never about the way I look, well not to my face anyway. Since being a child and acknowledging I was very different and remembering I was different by comments by other children, mainly boys in both primary and secondary school, it has never stopped me doing anything and made me more determined to proof to everyone I could do anything. I enjoyed learning at school and had a fantastic time at university. Occasionally i think about what people think but its mainly strangers that might take a second glance and I always smile at them and they smile back. I hope you continue to read postings and find some support in reading and receiving messages. Ask any questions and I hope I can help. take care, . > > Hi everyone, I'm new to this group. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your advice. Gosh, I've been on this support group nonstop since I've signed, and just knowing that there are other people out there that have gone through the same things I have has already helped. I wish I would have come across this group way sooner. I am in college right now working towards my masterrs so that I can be a Licensed counserlor. I know and realize that I can do anything I put my mind to no matter what the obstacles are, my issues are socially mainly. I am working on me right now in being happy with the way I look, I know I don't display myself in a confident manner and people can sense that and treat me accordingly. Its time for that to stop, I'm working on that, but its hard to change old habits. Thanks for sharing your story, I'm definitely going to follow your example. take care, Bernadette > > > > Hi everyone, I'm new to this group. Guest guest
Hi Bernadette, its Clare Teale in UK here. Your message touched my heart. You keep on going being positive, keep smiling, a one second smile can give the impression to a stranger you are happy confident open and feeling good. I have perfected the art of smiling, i use my whole face, it certainly puts other people at there ease and takes the gaze from my eyes. You are doing a fabulous job, keep going.... you will make a fantastic counsellor because you can tell people from your experience. I am a personal development trainer i give people confidence and enthusiasm for life, some of my clients have been through things i wouldnt even dream of, but after our course together they pick themselves up and go out in the world with a great big smile. Loads of luck clarechinita_0708 <chinita_0708@...> wrote: Thank you so much for your advice.
