Guest guest Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 , what wonderful news. I am so happy that you all made it through and with flying colours by the looks of things! I hope that Jordan continues to get well at a quick pace. Thanks for the update - you sure have quite the adoreable trooper on your hands! , mom to Ethan Vancouver, BC > Jordan is home from the hospital after a very sucessful surgery. The operation took a little over 4 hours and amazingly Jordan did not need to spend any time in the Intensive Care Unit. All of his doctors and nurses were amazed at his recovery. He was supposed to be very swollen and bruised but he never got more than just a little puffy. His eyes never swelled shut, which the doctors said they have never seen before. After 4 days he was ready to come home when he collapsed a lung from laying on his one side for so long so our stay was extended 3 more days while he got his breathing back up to par. We are thrilled with the results of the surgery. He looks a little better already (if you don't look at the baby enstein stitches) with his facial asyemetry going from 34mm to 26mm (still severe but an improvement) but the effect this has had on his development is amazing. Before the surgery he could not hold up his head, could not track objects with his eyes, didn't bring his hands together was more that a couple of months behind developmentaly. It has been 10 days since the surgery and he is now doing all those things and is less than a month behind. (EI was here today for his post-op evaluation). According to his CAT scan his brain expanded more than 2 cubic inches after the surgery. And he is a much happier baby too. I really think he was probably getting headaches from the pressure on his brain before. He hasn't stopped smiling since to operation. Even when he was full of IV's, drainage tubes etc he was still smiling and laughing. > Thank you so much for every one who kept him in their prayers. He is a living testament to the power of prayer! > > ~~~~ > Mama to: > 12-16-00 > Jordan(cranio, plagio & tort) & 2-21-03 > > BTW.. I attached a few post-op pictures of Jory. Quote

Guest guest Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Hi , I am SO happy to hear Jordan's surgery is over and that he's doing so well! He looks so cute and so happy in that picture, thanks for sharing it. That is so amazing that he is just about back on track developmentally. What happens now? Are you to repo him to help his head round out or do you plan on banding him? > Jordan is home from the hospital after a very sucessful surgery. I am really nervous about the Slings because I really wanted to use his muscle but the doctor said that they haven't done that surgery in 10years. So any input on the Frontal Slings Vs the Muscle? Guest guest Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Crystal - Micah has the frontalis sling with the silicone rods. (His surgery was done in Korea.) Our doctor here said the silicone rods they now use are stronger and " easily adjusted " if the need ever arises. Micah had his surgery last Feb. I'm glad Jordan is doing well. Guest guest Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I am concerned about this, also, Lily's doctor wants to use the muscle, he says the silicone will absorb. Another doctor at s Hopkins said he would use cadaver muscle... My dad and I don't have slings... anyone else have info? Guest guest Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Do you mean about what the doctor said? he told me the silicone won't last, that it will be absorbed by her body, and have be done over and over. This is what he said, I don't know it's accurate, one doctor's advice to me about my daughter. The other doctor said he wouldn't harvest muscle from her leg, but would use " Preserved " tissue from cadavers. What do you think? Well we went to the Dr's > yesterday for Jordan 2 week check post surgery > > and it went really well. He looks GREAT. The stiches are > dissolving and > > it is slowly healing. Guest guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Thanks Rob This is basically what both doctors said, one from s Hopkins and on from Children's Hospital, Wash., DC. The doctor at Hopkins uses cadaver tissue so he doesn't have to extract from the leg, the other at Children's uses the child's own tissue to avoid any type of disease or infection that could be " unknown " in the cadaver. I can understand both of their reasoning. I really dislike the idea of the incision and scar on the leg, but as of now we are going to go with her own tissue. We trust her doctor and this is what he typically does. Unless something changes in the next few years. It's confusing to me sometimes. I never had slings so I can't compare my own results. thank you again Beth Well we went to the Dr's > >> > >>yesterday for Jordan 2 week check post surgery > >> > >>>and it went really well.
