I think my Lucas is Left handed!! He still goes between both hands but

mostly his Left!! His grandma, uncle, and a niece are all left handed, so I

don't know if it is " in the family " of common with ds?

seemed to us that Gabby did not prefer either / or. She recently had an OT

eval and the eval'er said that she definitly prefers her left hand to her

right. What do ya know?

Only person in our family w left hand pref. is my brother. *shrug*

We had a discussion on this some months ago, even took a poll. I

don't remember the exact results but I think it came out that there are

probably a larger proportion of left-handed kids with DS. My son is left

handed and no one else I know if in the family is. Jessie

is 7 and still hasn't " decided. " This is certainly a delay as most

kids are either right or left handed by age 4.

I was going to say the same thing...Nic uses both hands all the time so it's

still hard to tell which will be dominant

I wouldn't think of it as a delay. Lots of " normal " kids don't make up their

minds until age 7 or older. My eldest son didn't and my (27, DS)

didn't. Besides, perhaps is ambidextrous.

LOL!

Noah is a lefty too, but always steps up to the batting tee as a righty! He

also doesn't seem to have any trouble

using the mouse with his right hand.

My Evan, 5, DS, is left handed....he is the only person in our family that is

Why are we doing this survey? Do we suspect left handedness comes with Down

Syndrome?

Whether your child is lefthanded or righthanded is hereditary, just like

hair color and body build.

Ellie is righthanded, as are her parents. I'm afraid you might get

unbalanced statistics, ie, the only people who will respond are the parents

of lefthanded cwds.

Yes, we do. Actually, two small published studies have also indicated that

left-handedness is increased in children with DS.

And Avi is the only left-handed person in my family.

population of gifted children.

All righties at our house too, two males, two females, including the kid with

DS. Both my kids established hand dominance early and never waivered. My

son bats pretty good left handed for a rightie! ;-)
