Guest guest
, This is ridiculous! They need to give him some time, after all this year, to adjust to his freedom. They should have been working all year on sitting in his seat and keeping his hands to himself with a POSITIVE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT program! It sounds like they are too lazy to really WORK on it. A couple of days is NOT long enough for him to catch on! Keep working on them and don't give up! Even if doesn't have that much time left in the class, think of the future s! Guest guest
Hi , My advise to you is to let them know that if they strap him down again, you will press abuse charges against them. If a parent does that to their child, nowadays, it is " child abuse " . ----Original Message Follows---- From: " Robicheaux " <momtothree@...> " " < >, " Kent Moreno " <Kent_Moreno@...> Subject: Help again Kent! Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 14:42:30 -0500 Well I sent an email saying they weren't strapping down any more,,,I was so proud of my self for getting it stopped so easily. But I just found out today from his teacher that he IS still being strapped down. They tried sitting him with the other kids a couple of days but he wouldn't leave the other kids booksacks alone and was still getting up and not sitting still. I am so furious that they went back to strapping him down without letting me know. I am going to drop him off in the morning..then go and park and go see for myself what they are doing with him. Then I will probably blow a fuse and really let them have it. I lost the last email you sent me on this Kent. I know you said it was very illegal and to have a Behavior Assessment (?) done. Could you give me a little more info on this. The exact name of the Asssessment and what do I use to prove what they are doing is illegal. I really felt like this was going to be taken care, and now I don't feel like I can trust the sp ed supervisor to do what she says she is going to do or have done. Thanks... ...aka...the mom from hell!!!! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

HI Kent Right now the behavior specialist is saying Sara's is not one of the above but " proximity " I think its BULL since we don't see a proximity problem here...out side of school. What can a parent do if they disagree with the FBA findings? luckily the plan we have meets a lot of Sara's needs BUT I hate this misdiagnosis that this lady has given her. And maybe there are other areas of need, we need to be addressing..........like what if her behavior is for attention, shouldn't we be meeting those needs somehow? Kathy mom to Sara 9..........who had a FBA from He**, wrong answer... maybe wrong plan.........what can I do???

Hi! Ughhhhhhh!!!! The law is on your side. As angry as you are right now and you have every right to be extremely angry, proceed calmly and deliberately. A behavior assessment isn't a form as much as it is a proccess. all behavior occurs for 1 of 4 reasons: Escape (from something unpleasant), Attention, Tangibles (food, money Grateful Dead CD's...), or Sensory. If one just deals with what the behavior looks like, not only is it very doubtful that one will be successful but, there is a significantly increased probability that the intervention will make the problem worse. A Behavior Assessment or Functional Assessment seeks to through the taking of data, interviewing staff, videotaping... to assess the function of the behavior and from that information, an effective intervention is developed. At this point in the ballgame I would contact a lawyer with expertise in special ed law immediately!!!!!!!!!!! Many times when parents seek to advocate on their child's behalf, they inadvertently shoot themselves in the foot by now following due process thus when the thing does make it to the legal system, the decision occurs in the favor of the school system due to a technicality. Keep me informed and I will help as much as possible. Take Care, Kent I will say that under IDEA it says very specifically that if behavior problems are present, a Functional Assessment must be done! Guest guest
You can disagree with the evaluation and ask for an independent one. I tried to fax you 's FAB today but the line was busy. I probably will not agree with his either. I'm not happy with the behavior management specialist who had came highly recommended. I hear there are two BMS with the same first name in our school system..I'm hoping we got the bad one and not the one that is suppose to be really good. She has promised to go to 's daycare for several weeks and she has not. That does not set well in my book. I'm not impressed with the FAB either. She had the audacity to suggest that be included more in the community during school. When I asked her about that, she said he could go to Mcs or the grocery store. That is bullshit! They know those two places are special to me and and I TAKE CARE OF THAT PART OF HIS LEARNING! Once I get a final version, I will write a letter that I disagree and ask for an independent evaluation. I hear the agency that comes in to re-evaluate for FAB's is really good. If nothing else, maybe we can get the other BMS that is suppose to be really good. Kent, I'd like to fax you a copy as well for your input. I have a rough draft and not a final copy. There is no data that was collected either. ps maybe Kent can have a session on FBA at the suaree....just kidding Kent
