You are right. That's why medicinal drugs are the number one cause of disease in

our society today. Every medicine chest in America is plum full of drugs. Senior

citizens are especially hard hit. The first step in this battle would be to stop

political contributions to our Congressmen by the Medical Industry.

All drugs do is SUPPRESS - they suppress symptoms which are trying to

Boniboo2002,

Welcome.

Just wanting to know how you discovered that your daughter's thyroid is no

longer functioning.

Thanks!

Just a quick (but long, sorry) introduction.

I'm a working mom of two, 6 & 9; married 15 years.

My background is in healthcare, holistic until this year, now more

My daughter is 9. After receiving her last round of shots @ 5, she

began to deteriorate dramatically. After months of test, questions,

and a variety of symtoms, we learned that her thyroid stopped

funtioning. She was diagnosed with Auto-Immune Thyroid Disease. We

certainly believe this is a direct result of her vaccinations.

She currently battles thyroid issues and ADD symtpoms.

A few years ago, we discovered that she had heavy metal toxicity as

well.

We have not continued vaccinations for our son. He's asthmatic.

Although he's been medication free for almost a year and a half.

Our physician is an MD who specializes in immunology and

endocrinology BUT he's a nutritionist as well. The children are

treated with homeopathic, and natural supplements.

Last week, the Nurse's Office at the kids school offered flu shots

to the faculty and staff. This began another round of questions for

me regarding vaccinations. I work in the Nurse's Office, and

refused the shot.

I'm looking for continued insight as to the dangers of vaccinations!!

There is one homeopath in my area and she charges way more than we could afford.

We are a one income family and pinch pennies now.

I have worked with homeopathic online who gave suggestions. I also have a friend

who is in homeopathic who tries to help. But everything that has been tried

didn't help.

Bonnie,

I don't think my son would go for acupuncture. He is terrified of needles and

will put up a fight. He doesn't care if it will hurt or not. He see's a needle

and goes into panic mode.

The kids do see a chiropractor. That has helped my daughter with ear infections

some what and my son likes it. But no real improvement health wise.

But I will check to see if our insurance covers it.

Well, really need a good one. Sometimes you can't afford not to have one.

But it is hard to find a good one - many now do telephone consultations and

I refer to many who do that.

Sheri B,

How did we find out? Eek. It's a long story.....

My dd(when she was 5) had bizarre symptoms that started directly

after her kindergarden round of vaccinations: stopped eating -

litterally, not one morsal of food, lost the color in her

complextion, had dark circles under her eyes, started loosing hair -

she has hair to her waist so we didn't really think much of it,

slept through the night - went to kindergarten - came home and slept

for the rest of the day, fine motor skills decreased, coulnd't read

words on a page anymore, she stopped growing - not one inch or pound

in 6 months, she couldn't focus on any task - like brushing her

teeth.

Her diagnosis came to us as an amazing miracle. One day my son(2 at

the time) woke up and could not walk. Yes, it was scary, freaked us

out. Went to their pedicatric chiropractor. He worked on him, but

didn't see a direct cause of the problem. To make an incredible

long story slightly shorter....we took him to the pediatrician. He

felt that due to a previous illness it was possible he had toxic

tennosivitis (sp?) in his hip. So he ordered labs. I asked if he

would check my daughter for anemia - totally grasping for an answer.

The doc asked more questions and decided to check a few more

things. He called me at 9:00 that night to tell me her thyroid labs

came back and her TSH was off the charts.

It's unusual for a 5 year old to suddenly have symptoms of an

autoimmune disorder. We've been able to trace it back to her last

round of shots. Her immune system could have been slightly

compromised (or, not) and her body was totally attacked. In

addition, she exhibited signs of ADD (inattentive) a short time

after the vaccinations. Like she suddenly just wasn't there.

It took us more than 6 months to get her thryoid problem diagnosed.

I would call the ped with a complaint of a symptom. Indivually, for

a while, the symptoms could be chocked up to toddlers and kids doing

what they do to make us crazy. During those 6 months, she had NO

developement. No growth in any manner. It seems that her brain has

never recovered. She still has some processing issues.

That's the story. Whew!

Holly,

Same for my son. I'm working on him.

I just know that every single intervention we tried w/my daughter

just didn't quite work. Helped some, but not totally.

Some acupuncturists or chiropractors have a non-needle technique

that might be worth looking into.

You do realize that limonene, eugenol, linalool, geraniol, coumarin,

citronellol, citral, and isoeugenol are found in natural essential oils

and generally isolated from them, right? Some of the others may be as

well, but I can't speak to that. Evernia furfuracea and prunastri are

mosses (the latter is oakmoss).

Phrases like " dangerous chemicals the EU lightly calls allergens " make

you sound like a chemophobe. Do you know which of these " dangerous "

chemical(s) you're allergic to? Have you done any kind of testing? Or

are you just assuming that anything with a chemical-sounding name must

be some horrible artificial lab-created poison?

Would you like a refreshing glass of potentially-fatal dihydrogen

monoxide? *laughs*

Personally, I think the EU legislation, and paranoid industry watchdogs

like the IFRA, are ridiculous. Perfumes have the potential to be

allergenic or sensitizing whether they contain synthetics or not, and

forcing manufacturers to list relatively innocuous ingredients in order

to warn consumers is on par with forcing food companies to put the

warning " may contain peanuts " on a jar of peanuts.

Greetings n,

Glad to see you came to explore the Natural end of the spectrum. I felt I

should add a note here about some of these aromatics, and say that yes many of

these can be found in natural source as well as synthetic. Where the problem

occurs in the commercial market is when the dollar gets in the way.

For example lets say I am making a white flower composition and I feel

Dimethyl Anthranilate is going to give the compound that little something I am

looking for, I would of course use the Natural source material, and pay the

850.00 per pound. Now the big company that is putting out thousands of gallons

of the compound to create a similiar end result would opt for the synthetic

version at 5.80 per pound.

The bottom line here literally, is natural verses synthetic and you can be

assured that allergies will be rampant in the use of synthetics. Perhaps the EU

should take the time to modify there ruling to state on these labels whether or

not each component is naturally derived or synthetically produced, this would

add more clarity in general. But the downside would be the icreased cost in

selling a product that is accopanied by a book to explain what is in the

product.

Virtually all aroma chemicals and even essential oils can be created

synthetically, and the only time that it really is avoided is when it is cheaper

to use a natural. Those who want a better product will pay the price to obtain

natural source materials, and true to form it will show in the end result.

Be Well ~

The only problem is that these ingredients are the man made versions of the real

thing and since they are not perfect they have side effects. I am not allergic

to any of the EO I*ve tried so far (about 30 of them). I am on the other hand

allergic to the senthetic versions of most of the isolates in them. n

That's not a problem at all, because it's the same exact chemical no

matter what its origin. If you are allergic to eugenol, for instance,

then you will also be allergic to clove bud oil, which is primarily

composed of eugenol. If you are not allergic to clove bud oil, then

neither are you allergic to synthetic eugenol. If anything, you are MORE

likely to have an adverse reaction to the natural product simply because

it has a number of constituents not present in the isolate, thereby

increasing the chance that one or more of them will affect you.

As you are probably aware, modern mainstream perfumes are typically

composed of dozens of aroma chemicals. It's quite possible that you are

allergic to one of the more common ones. But to refer to all those

isolates as " dangerous chemicals " when they're the same as the

ingredients in your favorite essential oils is just silly.

Moot point. Lack of understanding of the regulations.

Limonene in most " fine " fragrance, if not all, including personal care products

comes from naturals in the product.

The label reports the chemical content, not the source, so all the limonene

comes from natural ingredients.... The label does not mention Bergamot, Lemon,

Orange, etc, only the total limonene content is above the limit, and thus

reportable on the label. Maybe some are allergic to labels?

Hello,

I have taken quite a long time to introduce myself.

I work in R & D for a small natural perfumery in Venice CA. Coming

from

a scientific backround, I have fallen in love with natural perfumery

through the experience of blending and distilling some of our oils.

I

have not had much time to get involved with the natural perfumery

group and hope to do so in the future. It is great to see that there

are people as passionate about naturals as we are.

Thank you all for your time.

Warm regards,

Hi , :-) Nice to see you here. Take time to peruse the archives;

you will find aromatic gems there.

Hi

Thanks for introducing yourself. Can you tell us a little bit about your

day-to-day duties in R & D?

Since so many of us do our own R & D, and that may be slapdash, someone with

a scientific background could help us by sharing their experiences.

Hi Anya,

I have a scientific backround in chemistry and molecular/micro biology. This

job in perfumery is a bit of a 180 degrees away from what I have been used to,

except from the distilling and processing- rather a blessing. It is fun to work

out and try new technigues for extractions and distillations. It is also great

to learn of the traditional techniques as there is much knowledge to gain.I hope

to share more...

Sounds like a lot of fun, . Most of us do not have access to

distillation equipment, and our extractions tend to be tincturing and

infusing fresh botanicals that are not generally available in the

marketplace. Have fun cruising the archives, and in the meantime, can you

tell us anything extraordinary you've observed in the " new techniques "

(company secrets excepted, of course ;-)

MUMPS is NOT a huge issue even after puberty although you would think its

the end of the world.

Hello all,

My name is Ziegman, I'm a Paramedic from the U.S. and have been in

the remote industrial field for a relatively short time. I started in

Emergency Medicine about 10 years ago as a US Army Medic assigned to the ER

(A & E) in a regional hospital. While in I attended Paramedic school and when

I got out I worked for a year in a busy ER in a major metropolitan area.

Following that was 2 years of ambulance duty. From there I moved to Alaska

and worked as a Flight Medic doing fixed wing Critical Care and remote evec

transport. After about 1 year doing that I spent 2 years in this line of

work at a pumping station 20 mile north of the Arctic Circle on the

Trans-Alaska Pipeline. The Medevac company hired me away from the Line to

open their first satellite station in Southeast Alaska, which I ran and

continued to fly full time until November of 05. I took a position with

Frontier Medical in December and at the moment am on a seismic boat.

I'm very interested in talking with others in the industry and am always

keen to stimulate the mind. If you're ever bored, drop me an email.

Has any thought been given to a topic of the week/moth/until interest runs

out? I'd like to hear the way others would approach certain complaints.

Look forward to browsing the site,

Hi Della, and welcome!

You could try tincturing some in perfumer's alcohol. Grind it up and

macerate it for maybe 2 weeks, shaking now and then. then let it age

for 2-3 months. I read this in Arctander.

Hi Della,

I believe we have met (at the wpg. folk fest.) You and your twin chose

a couple Virgo pendants I made in exchange for some of your lovely

soap. I really enjoyed your " Raw Sugar " soap. My housesitter ended

up using almost all of it. Hope we cross paths again.
