Well, it's on the MSN side of things. I've had emails forwarded to

my old account (which I HATE because it gets 100x more spam)

and it works fine. ARGGHH!!!

My school sucks at accomadating me. I still haven't gotten that changing

me to use and there's no way to lock the door for privacy. The challenge we

grr - i had to have written 3 pages of stuff and its mysteriously

gone. Some days are just not the best!!!!

Syeda - Thanks! Exams are okay. I have one this coming Tuesday in

Ancient Chinese dynasties. I have joined a study group and it has

helped a lot but I think it will be a simple exam because I do well

in the class. The exam planned for Wednesday has been cancelled. This

professor is new to our univ and he is just terrible at teaching!! My

exam from last Tuesday, I went with some friends to ask the professor

of the marks. He said he wouldn't tell us who got which mark because

it would be unfair to others, but that of the four people in the room

the lowest mark was 26/30 and the highest was 30/30!!! That is so

exciting! I really was nervous of the exam before I took it. During

it I knew all the answers and felt very confident. I am currently in

my last year studying history and political science. I am not sure

what I'll do with this degree though.

To everyone - I have had some very negative experiences with work and

education. My last univ I was forced to leave because of the

emotional and physical stress I was in. The univ was not accessible

and the room I was in was not either. They promised to have

renovations finished before school began but they were not. They

began construction in my dorm room while I was living there in the

middle of the semester. Strange men walking in without notice or

knocking at all hours, no quiet place to study (I could not get in

the library), and just inconvenient to not have a bathroom for days

straight!!! Not to mention, the administration and students were

absolutely ignorant and prejudice of the disabled community. I would

have disgusting works written on my door about being disabled and

when I asked the RA and RD to help me (I knew who was doing it

because she was not exactly shy about announcing to myself and the

rest of the school she hated disabled people), they refused to help

and said it was freedom of speech. I thought I got out of that frame

of mind of ignorant people or just inconsideration and

inaccessibility issues. Last month I applied for an internship job. I

only spoke with the woman on the phone and I didn't mention my

disability. I didn't think it would be an issue. She told me I had

the job since no one else had applied. She had me return an

application anyways for paperwork purposes and a section was writing

about my life experiences and how it changed me positively.

Naturally, I wrote about SMA. She called me today and told me I

couldn't work there because the building was not accessible and they

are not willing to make renovations. I asked her if there were any

other reasons to make her decision, that I wasn't qualified as she

had imagined or not. She said no, just the wheelchair is an issue

with stairs. She said she doesn't have to follow ADA regulations

because it's a not-for-profit organization that is run out of her own

home. I'm not sure of the validity of this, but I haven't the

motivation to check. I am just so disappointed and unmotivated to

continue doing anything.

I explained to the head of my department at univ the situation. The

deadline for internship applications is next Thursday, so on top of

school work and other physical issues (btw - I have been on Keppra

since last weekend and the pain has decreased greatly) I have to

scramble together a resume and letters of recommendation and writing

samples to mail in by Thursday. The head of the department has been

very accommodating to me and cautious about the issue (I think he

sensed I was extremely upset and he kept telling me to just keep

looking and to find something better). I am looking into Senator

Clinton's office because they are desperate for interns. However, I

don't think this is where I want to take my life. I don't know what I

want to do really.

I'm just let down I guess. Have any of you run into similar

difficulties when looking for jobs or schools? I feel like this isn't

common since I haven't heard of it before. It makes me feel like I'm

wasting my potential just because I'm in a wheelchair and I can't

have fair opportunity to work at other places. I deserve that first

job! Grrr!!

Accommodations at my school are actually pretty good; I really can't complain

too much. One thing that does bother me is when doors have the 'push to open'

button; and i get excited b.c. yay! i can get in without waiting for someone

to come along to open it or struggle with it for like 10 mins. AND THEN it

doesnt even work!!! i know its not too big of a deal, it just really aggravaites

me!

Kendra--

I would recommend that you contact the ADA Educational Compliance

Board at Cornell University, or the Center for Disability Rights in

Rochester, NY. They can bring a lot of influence to bear in your

favor. They both have a national reach with a focus on NYS.

Did you just change email addresses? And did send you the message to

verify it? If you did all that, it may still take a few days before the

change actually takes place.

Oh yea! Talk about filling up our mailboxes with spam and serpufluous

emails!

Test?!!!

Couldn't you add something like a good joke?

Like, a guy comes into a bar with jumbper cables around his neck.

The bartender says, " All right. You can stay, but don't start anything. "

OK- this should stir up a conversation.

Here in the big apple, today was the last day of school for the kids

(teachers have to go on Monday- ugh!)

The NYC DOE decided that for all the kids who didnt receive services this

past year, due to a shortage of providers, services will be offered during the

summer- so will receive OT and PT during the summer. That's gonna cut in

on beach time, to say the least!

Do they really think that offering the services as an after thought will be

enough to keep all the NYC parents quiet?

Its so tricky for me since I am also an employee- its like trying to fight

with my employer!

We'll be on summer/beach/margarita mode for a while.

That sure is an after thought to say the least !! Sometimes I think

,they think ,we are suppose to think (follow thatl lol), that anything we get is

a gift.

I am STILL looking for a SEIT teacher who can do basic signing for the

fall. So far six weeks later, no luck. Guess who is going to be going to

nursery school in the fall as a SEIT teacher if we don't find one. You guessed

it, yours truly. I refuse to be pushed into a cookie cutter program (no offense

to anyone, it is just the way i feel right now) because they cannot provide

services for my son. I had one woman tell me I should just let Micah use a

comunication board. I KNOW Micah, if he gets a communication board it's all

over. He is lazy spelled L-A-Z-Y . he is just now starting to zoom with signs

and trying to say the words, this would be a HUGE backstep. SIGH~~~~~Sometimes

it is jsut so hard.

Oh my goodness. We are half way done with our summer. My 15 yr old just

finished his summer school classes. We are trying to figure out what we'll have

time to fit in before school starts when we get back from our vacation.

School starts Aug 10 here.

It's so funny to hear that you are just getting out!

I think many people are on vacation. We are headed south in a few days.

I'm also sharing my desktop with my 21 year old son, while his sits in the

front closet. Dad gave him a laptop today and I guarantee you he will still

want my pc just to aggravate me!

is just bumming around with his siblings. He looks forward to the

beach - but we have to be careful about talking about it or he will want to

go when he wants to go!

I've been busy at work - I'm the more " seasoned " worker and we just hired

three new workers and in the process of hiring a new supervisor. I prefer

to be this busy - makes the day more intersting!

leaves for Argentina, too, in a week. She'll be gone for 5 months!

My MIL is retiring from her job, so the emergency daycare should be

available whenever we need her. She'll probably move to VA once affordable

senior housing comes through (at least a year). IF she would have done her

paperwork last year, she'd be here much sooner..........She is getting

closer to these days, too.

ps - Sharon, what does your schedule look like?
