He sureseems to possess most of the typical symptoms.. Itwould be a relief for you to know for sure. MySantiago has AMC (arthrogryposis) and lumber scoliosisalso. We caught it at 6 months and he is now 3 and a1/2. So much I could tell you, but heres what I thinkyou should know from my experience.. AMC withscoliosis is very frequent 1 out of 3 children. Ittends to be aggressive and the curve increases. Santiwent from a 20 degree curve at the first x-ray to a 50degree curve within a year. It tends to be foundbecause of weak muscles due to the typical problem ofweakness and short tendons that are common in AMC. Casting is a very good alternative to help control thescoliosis until your child reachs an older age. Thatis what we are attempting to do, buy more time and seeif these stubborn backs will go straight.. Every childis different and especially since you are dealing witha known condition (could be AMC) you need to know howto deal with your particular child. Santiago did wellwith casting mainly because his back is very flexableand he is very active. If has rigidy and littleflexibility, your doc might think twice before tryingthe casting. PT is essential while wearing the castso that his muscles under the cast do not atrophy. Santiago has had not one problem with the casting andhe is maintaining a 25 degree curve at this time. Hehas been in two casts and will do the next one inOctober. His muscles stayed strong and he even startedcrawling while wearing his first cast... , it isa long road, but you are doing great and doing thebest thing for your child. I have never seen a morebeautiful child then my little santiago, he has twoolder brothers and he is the light of everyones life. They are strong children and you will be amazed atthe determination they have..
