Sounds like a ridiculous plan, . I wouldn't be interested if it were me.

I know with Ry I preferred him receiving those services in an " inclusive "

environment, not separate and alone.

Glad to hear you are done (on Monday). I've been in my margarita mode for the

last 3 weeks and lovin every minute of it....especially as I'm pulling my

paycheck out of my mailbox with my other hand!

OHHH , I don't think it would shut ME up. Then very little does. LOL My

mother tells everyone that I learned to talk at 12 months old and haven't shut

up since:)) This year was employed by the same school system AND the very

same school attended. That is no longer the case. Neither of us felt

comfortable making waves. I'm glad that we are not going to have to worry since

the schools are different even if the system is the same. We can go as parents.

past year, due to a shortage of providers, services will be offered during the

summer- so will receive OT and PT during the summer. That's gonna cut

in

on beach time, to say the least!

Do they really think that offering the services as an after thought will be

enough to keep all the NYC parents quiet?

Its so tricky for me since I am also an employee- its like trying to fight

with my employer!

We'll be on summer/beach/margarita mode for a while.

WE'RE NOT ALL ON HOLIDAY!! Sniff, sob, whinge moan.

As the rain beats down here in the UK in the middle of flaming June I should

be grateful we're not on holiday I guess! We still have 4 weeks of school

left and I have three of college, including 4 'serial' days in school as a

prelude to my teaching practice next term. then we're into our 6 week break,

can't wait, I love nothing better than a lie in (til 7.30am anyway) and hate

the alarm clock!

I made the mistake of being over heard booking our first summer holiday in 6

years by Tim. This was last september, he has asked me on an almost daily

basis " Go France now, holiday? " Sigh, only 6 more weeks to suffer this

questioning and then he'll be asking 'when we go home'?!! My big kids are

off to see their dad in a couple of weeks, before tim breaks up from school.

Hopefully he will get a week of fun and sun with 'KIDS@ an organisation that

works with kids with SEN. He had a blast last year, then its off to sunny

france for 16 days, sun, sand, pools, tents and my sister for adult company,

should be brill. The anticipation is almost better than the real thing!

Your post made me laugh, Sue. is the same way with the questions. We

always try to wait until the day before to tell him things, that way we only

have 24 hours with the questions! We just got back last week from a week at the

beach and everyday he would walk in while I was still half asleep and the

conversation would go, " Mom, what day is it today? , you know what day it

is. Oh, yeah, Mom, today is Monday, right? Yes, . Mom, Monday, Tuesday,

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, GO HOME, 1013 (our address)!!!! Yes,

......what, aren't you having fun at the beach? Oh, yeah, Mom, but I be

happy at 1013. What time will I be happy on Saturday? " Every morning, the same

thing. He absolutely kills me!

Despite his wanting to be at home, he does have a good time and goes with the

flow very nicely. I'm sure he wonders why it is we need to go away when he is

perfectly happy in his home. LOL. If only I could get inside his head. That

would be a wish I would love to be granted!

Sounds absolutely heavenly. I bought a book on Tuscany and one of Provence. I

would love to visit the UK. I'd also love to visit Ireland and meet that

incredible reporter who gave you know who a hard time. LOL All I get is

stinking DC which I have seen a dozen times. I should be happy I get a vacation

at all. Though it does remind of me of when I was a kid and Mother would try to

force rutabagas down my unwilling throat and remind me that kinds in (name a

country) are starving, so you should eat. LOL

does that too. He gets positively obsessive about things that are fun.

This week it was all about the swim meet with and staying in the " hotel. "

He calls every motel and inn a hotel. He also refers to dorm rooms by that

description. We better not talk about the 3 day Special Olympics camp until

July 16, the day before.

Has it been quite, I seems to have gotten alot of mail in the past few days.

Well I've been off touring SD (we were planning on the UP in Michigan but

weather forcasts called for cool and rain, same along the Mississippi so we went

west ) on my motorcycle, left last Mon. jsut got back today.....oh my aching

knees. LOL

The Black Hills area is fun, hairpin turns, even ones that kept spiroling down

(ugh) everyone else enjoyed them, I was like crap this is a spirol not a

hairpin. hehe.

Oh and the flat tire this morning (which required removing the wheel and taking

into a town to have fixed). I really thought it was the road, ya know? Quite

exciting really, lol, I told the hubby to be thankful for small blessings, at

least it wasn't out in the middle of the grasslands where theres nothing for

miles and miles and miles and ......well you get the idea.

The bad part is I have to go back to work on Mon. :-(

just finished her summer school program, she had a great time. She's going

to Camp Sertoma with her older sister as her personal assistant in the middle of

July, then hopefully we'll take a short trip the last week of July since I have

that off to.

We begin working with our assigned signing mentor in a couple of weeks so that

should be interesting to.

It would be nice if Jeff does get a kit to turn his Venture into a trike, then

we can hopefully take along without having to worry so much about her

falling asleep on the back of the bike, I keep trying to talk Jeff into getting

a sidecar, he's against it. hehe.

Hey Jan, can be bribed with school also! He loves going there! He says he

doesn't like Fridays because Saturday " no school. " Smiling is all I can do to

keep my sanity some days!

Something cute here, one of the days we were at the beach last week I was laying

on a towel with my youngest and we were watching play catch with his

brother and we were talking about how athletic is. I said to

Bradley, " I often wonder what kind of school athlete could have been if he

wouldn't have been born with DS. " Than I went on to ask him, " Do you think our

family would be different if didn't have DS? " Bradley said, " I don't

think we would laugh and have fun as much. " This puzzled me so I asked him what

he meant. He said, " makes us laugh all the time. He says funny things and

we all have learned real funny lines to say from watching all his videos with

him. " What a thing to say! - I didn't know what to say at that very moment.

It made me think about things from Bradley's 10 yr. old perspective. He truly

loves our family, obviously, and sees no " burden. " He loves his brother because

he makes him laugh......most days!

That night in bed in Stone Harbor I reflected on this small exchange I had with

my son on the beach and realized how unique we are....and it's a good thing!

Hi Joy--

Loved your story...made me miss my bike. We went to the Harley rally in

Sturgis, SD in 1990--what a great experience and it was so beautiful!! I

hope to get another bike...someday. Does ride on the back of your

bike? I think Mac would love it, but I worry about sliding off the

side--like he tends to do on a horse--I never thought about the falling

asleep part. I wish they made booster seat type things...maybe something

similar to the backseat of some dressers with a sissy bar and then a wrap

around the sides part way would work.

Hi Jill,

actually rides behind her dad on his old Yamaha Venture.

My idea was to find some arm rests for it, but it's to old, then another idea

was to make some. Since he bought a Valkyrie last fall he kept the old one so

we could go on short local rides and she could still come with us, there is

nothing much but a seat and a sissy bar on the valkyrie.

Just the other day he made the comment that he'd maybe try to see if he can find

a kit and make the Yamaha into a trike. That might be better then the arm

rests, then I wouldn't have to work so hard to plan some of my vacation time for

when she's at her summer school program. :-) BTW, I wasn't around when he

took her into town the first time on the back of his motorcycle, my reacttion

was 'are you crazy???'. She loves it, but there is the hypnotic part that does

cause you to get tired sitting back there so we really can't take very long

rides with her. She liked to take one of her spatulas with (the rubber ones)

until she dropped it and daddy didn't turn back so she could get it, at least

she didn't try to get off, but the bad part is it was easier to tell if she

needed to get off and walk around a little bit with the spatula. He has had

her on his Valkyrie for a ride over to her sisters about two miles down the

road, again I think he was crazy. LOL

is 14 and this is something she/we first tried about a year ago so I'm sure

as he gets older Mac'll get better at staying on things like horses and such and

you might get to get back to riding. :-) You could always get a side car.

(dh gave a definate no to that tho, lol, but it might be easier to get one of

those for the Venture then to convert it to a trike.)

When tim gets up in the morning he asks for his TA Mrs A**, the first thing

he says EVERY SINGLE NIGHT after school is " I go home now, I have tea " , like

every night I hear this and have I ever forgotton to feed him? well maybe

once or twice, but not enough to make a child that insecure about being fed

regularly!

And when we get home he always asks " where naomi " " where Ben " , like they

don't go to school too and have done since before he was even born let alone

came to live here with us. Where does he think they're going to be?! And I

can't wait for them to go visit their dad and answer the where they gone

questions ad nauseum day in day out! But at least he has more or less

stopped that awful toddler " why " phase!

also asks the Where is game. And if you ask him, he knows were

everyone is! He also goes through his daily schedule several times a day -

lord forbid if something occurs out of order! He's never asked the " Why "

question - I wish he would.

We upped his medication this past week and it's been a rough few days. We

are going to ask the doctor to put him back on the old meds for now. His

appetite has increased and he just wants to graze all day long.

I'd like to think that someday Mac (and Kit) will be able to ride behind

someone. I'm sure they will for short distances, but maybe not for too long.

He loves motorcycles and knows where the " shop " is when we drive by...he has

quite a collections of motorcycle collectibles too.

With as many people riding that there are now you'd think they would have come

up with a babyseat type of thing for children (NOT babies). If we ever REALLY

get into it we may have to look into a trike or sidecar.

A friend of mine who has an adult son with spina bifida had an

experience with this once. He loves Harley's (as does ) and they were

visiting a relative who had one. With help they strapped on behind the

" driver " so he couldn't possibly fall off. His legs were strapped down some

way

and everything. They took off and were gone almost an hour and she was a

basket case by then but they whizzed by and stopped long enough to tell her they

were going again. And were a long time again. It was the thrill of his life.

It was fine as long as nothing happened but if the bike had fallen over for

any reason or been hit---well, think of the things that could happen, as she

did. But he came back safe and happy. I'm not sure I'd have survived that

either. Several people have told they would find someone with a side

car to take him for a ride but none has ever turned up. He has Harley stuff all

over the place, many models plus clothes, and a Harley clock (starts one up

every hour), a lamp, almost anything you could think of except a real Harley.

I'm shocked Tim hasn't made a comment about this thread and the moms on this

list!

No motorcycles at this house (though Tim would love to have one),

does love riding in TJ's corvette with the top off. It's one sure way of

getting him to settle down if he's having a bad day.

Tim and I are thinking of getting mountain bikes. The trailor idea sounds

good. We have a bike trail really close to our house that goes all the way

into DC. Snoop and I sometimes walk it with our friends (his and mine!).

Everytime I read a book about someone who moves abroad and starts a new life

I start calculating whether we could do the same if we cashed everything

out. " Under the Tuscan Sun " " From Paris to the Moon " , etc. Unfortunately

cashing out wouldn't get us very far. Last year at this time I'd just

returned from a trip to Japan, now I'm hoping that we can take the family

down to Mesa Verde (we live in Denver). Personally, I'm way jealous of your

trips to DC, having banned myself from travel books I've begun an American

history reading jag ( " Alice Roosevelt Longworth " " All The Presidents'

Children " " Lucy " " Washington's Crossing " " The Day Lincoln Died " ) and would

love to see the sights. There is a UK company that rents out villas in

Italy, I have the catalog with pictures and descriptions and linger lovingly

over it during the winter months...

(Have I mentioned that we've had weeks and weeks of rain here in Colorado?

Normally it's 90s or 100s but this year no such luck. In my wicked way it

comforts me to know that those lucky stiffs who get the summer off won't be

any more tan than I am.)

Phew it's back! I posted that message at 6:00 or so this morning!

There were no messages at all on the website and only error messages

everywhere! (But, go figure, the pictures were still available)
