Guest guest
I never hear anything about kelp here or on the thyroid group. Is it a good source of iodine? Is it good for the thyroid?
Guest guest
Kelp doesn't have enough Iodine in it anyways plus it can contain mercury. From: Ariel Monserrat <wolvenwood@...>iodine Sent: Wed, July 20, 2011 6:00:56 PMSubject: Re: kelp Sorry, this is the IODINE group, not the thyroid one. Also, yes kelp can help with thyroid. I don't use it though because kelp comes from the ocean and the oceans are very polluted now. I prefer to use straight iodine/iodide mixture known as Lugol's. But mods and others will have more info than me about it. Guest guest
Hi Helene,I'm glad you came over. When your VitaMix arrives be sure to watch the DVD, read the manual and do the examples in the Getting Started Booklet. BTW, You didn't say, are you getting the 64, 48, or 32 oz container. Also, are you getting a dry container? Also, ask all the questions you want an answer for, there are no silly questions and hopefully no silly answers. Guest guest
No problem, Lea! I'm sure the links will be useful. Is iodine necessary? For some reason, I never liked salt in my food. Not sure why but I like my foods seasoned with herbs or just keep it plain. Now chocolate on the other hand....:)HeleneOn Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 4:37 PM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote: Hello Helene,I take Kelp capsules as a supplement (I find it not so fun to cook with) for minerals and extra iodine.I don't know much about Dulse or Komu, so Googled them for you… Dulsehttp://www.google.com/search?client=safari & rls=en & q=Dulse & ie=UTF-8 & oe=UTF-8 Kombuhttp://www.google.com/search?client=safari & rls=en & q=kombu & ie=UTF-8 & oe=UTF-

Guest guest
Iodine is important to thyroid health. I don't believe the current hype where they paint your arm with iodine and say if it absorbs , you need more, but still Iodine is very important to the body. Velda On 9/12/2011 5:07 PM, H. Guest guest
I'd say that MOST people are iodine deficient.I could not more highly recommend the book, "Iodine why you need it, why you can't live without it". http://www.amazon.com/Iodine-Need-Cant-Live-Without/dp/0966088239Here is an old post of mine on this topic with a link on how to test yourself for iodine deficiency./message/15154 Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< On Sep 12, 2011, at 8:07 PM, H. Guest guest
Ooops - I just sent a link advocating that.I never tried the iodine on the skin test. I recommended it as a cheaper "test". My iodine/iodide loading test cost $149 and as suspected, I was Iodine deficient. It is such an important nutrient ESPECIALLY for women, and with the situation in Fukushima, for everyone. That I think it is worth it to either get on supplements like Iodoral preventatively, or if you don't want to supplement without knowing you are deficient, then I recommend the test - it is the only way to back up the skin test with documented proof that you are iodine deficient. http://www.doctorsdata.com/test_info.asp?id=117If you read, "Iodine, why you need it, why you can't live without it" you would get on Iodoral or an equivalent - guaranteed!BTW - NO ONE should eat refined table salt with iodine added (and the iodine in toxic, refined table salt isn't enough anyway)!http://www.amazon.com/Salt-Your-Health--Brownstein/dp/B000R8ZTGKAt bare minimum, people should take kelp daily (if they aren't on another trace mineral supplement) as it has more iodine than toxic table salt.
