Guest guest Posted January 17, 2001 Report Share Posted January 17, 2001 I have had asthma since I was in kindergarten. I was given syrup albuterol until I was old enough for an inhaler. I was given allergy shots for a while but my father objected. The reason I am writing is to say to be very careful with albuterol. I ended up after years of use with a heart condition. It speeds up your heart rate which can eventually cause damage. My grandmother would give me a hot cloth on the chest and take me for a car ride which often did the trick to easy my breathing. I also took on of the homeopathic tea things called Breath Easy, I no longer take this because of the epherdea but it does help (the key is smaller doses). Coffee also now helps me to relax and breath (I can only drink decaf though). My four year old was diagnosed with asthma do to lack of a better diagnosis and I refused to continue the albuteral treatments. My Dr. prescribed singulair, but I didn't feel comfortable with that. All of a sudden it hit me like a brick. She is allergic to something in our house. We moved to a new home and she hasn't had a single wheezing episode yet. So, just a thought. I don't know anything about you or where you live, but if your house is old, poorly insulated, poorly ventilated, or has any damp places like a basement, or if your child is sleeping on a hand-me-down mattress it may be something to look into. About the eczema I really don't know much about it, but read somewhere (and I don't know much about the source) that using a chlorine filter on your bath water could help. I use albuterol several times a day and was using flovent off and on. When I use flovent I don't have to use albuterol, but I thought the cortisone in the flovent was worse for me than the albuterol? My naturopath does some homeopathy, but from what I have been learning here I don't think she is doing is " right " . Prior to her, I saw a chiropractor who did homeopathy. Not much success there either. I have had some success, but I really believe that I need to see a classical homeopath. I can honestly say I got no relief whatsoever. Every few years I get to feeling gulty and go back for another try homeopathically and it just doesn't make a dent. It ws something in our old house that she was allergic to. The house is scheduled for destruction, so hopefull it won't make anyone else sick. Our neighbors house is also scheduled for destruction soon and thier child has asthma too, hmm, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. Those houses were just nasty, but all we could afford. We took her to a chiropractor/kensioligist(?) and he couldn't find anything wrong with her. Well no, we were out of house and had been for a while by the time we saw him. She isn't on any meds now. We even stopped the nutrional therapy she was on. Homeopathy can only go so far, also, if you have what are called 'maintaining causes' in your life - ie moldy house; bad marriage; live over the freeway ;-). Etc. Often you can only get so far towards a cure and then no further because of the maintaining causes. And as you've shown often getting rid of some of those is often enough on its own. So look at your environment, food, detergent, etc first! Illinois or Minnesota are the closest for a classical homeopath. He may have done a few more courses, but not is not a classical homeopath known to one of the best - Steve Waldstein - who started this list. There are a lot of people who say they practice homeopathy, but it takes 2-4 years of intensive study. And rarely can an MD practice it successfully as it is a 180 degree different view of health and illness and symptoms. I would say you need a new homeopath if it isn't working. Again homeopathy is only as good as the homeopath. And unless they are very educated in the foundation, they won't be able to help you. Steve's list is one of the most complete there is of CLASSICAL homeopaths. These are homeopaths who follow the principles of Hahnemann, the creator of homeopathy - use only 1 remedy at a time, don't mix therapies, prescribe on the basis of the whole symptom picture. There are others who say they practice homeopathy but Steve has been very careful to screen them out if they don't do the above. If you find one, please let me know as I am maintaining the list now and will research their practice and add them to the list!
