Yeah Dr. K is great...As one who traveled from Alabama to use him. He gave me hopes for a revision when few were offering any hope. Guest guest
Hi n and welcome! Don't give up easily, please. Many of us had insurance fights, and I do know that locally our doctors refused to take BC, then after negotiations, reinstated them, so there is always hope! I wish you the best success, first in getting insurance issues out of the way, then with getting the best DS doctor -- Dr. K! Hugs and blessings, Ann

Guest guest
Hello Amy, Hang in there! My 5 year old was just diagnosed with OCD, but he has been showing signs since 3 also. You are lucky you are getting him help now. I had taken him to several therapists before this and they kept telling me he was behaving this way because of his separation anxiety. Though that is partly true, I now realize that a lot of what he was doing was OCD. 2 nutritionists told me about a natural substance called 5HTP you can get in a Vitamin store. 25mg twice a day is a good dose for my son. Works well with OCD. Maybe you can check it out. Good Luck to your family, Jodi
Guest guest
Hi Amy and welcome to the board! My daughter now 11, had an abrupt onset of severe OCD at 4 years old. Unlike your son, she did not exhibit anxiety etc. problems until onset, though. I strongly suggest you learn all you can about Cognitive Behavior Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention, the first-line suggested treatment for children with OCD and the only type of therapy proved to reduce and eliminate OCD symptoms. Does your child psychologist know about this therapy, is he doing it with your son? If not, you'll want to find one who does. Your boy is very lucky to be identified and treated so young. Children who are, tend to have the best outcomes. It *is* a long road you are right, but by crafting an " ERP lifestyle " now, you can minimize the disorder's effect on your son's development and avoid falling into the enabling behaviors that allow OCD to thrive. Again, welcome, and good luck to you and your son, Kathy R. in Indiana p.s. What books has the doctor suggested to you? ----- Original Message ----- From: " totobean2002 " <mikeandamy@...> > My name is Amy and my 3 year old son Warren has just been diagnosed > with OCD traits. Guest guest
hello everyone, so glad I found this group. My old GP done blood tests, TSH 4.85 and he said there was nothing wrong with that and my symptoms were depression and threw me some anti-depressants. I changed GP's after this and my new one has referred me immediately to a Endocrinologist who I see at the end of May. My new GP thought maybe CFS but seeing the specialist who might just help me. My symptoms are cold feet, depression, weight gain, 'itchy' hair, appetite all over the place, insomnia, exhaustion, lack of interest, total lack of libido and plenty more. I am welcome to any hints and tips about helpful diets or anything at all. thank you all in advance, Gordie
Guest guest
thank you Sheila for all that information ! I cannot believe how many of the symptoms I ticked ! I have been so anxious for the past 8 months now and if it is down to thyroid I will be furious ! The GP threw anti-depressants at me and Valium. The valium made me feel like a zombie so I stopped that but the exhaustion and depression remain. The anti-depressants did absolutely nothing at all so the GP finally stopped them too but did nothing else. As I said before the new GP seems more interested but will not give me more blood tests as only my TSH was done last time along with something the old GP called my inflammatory indicators? I cannot get him to understand that TSH 4.85 is too high and with my fathers thyroid issues, he went hyper and then hypo, he will still not budge but wants me to wait and see the specialist. The thought of another 6 weeks like this is unbearable when maybe, just maybe, a small tablet each day would make the difference. I am tempted to get something online to see if anything can help me feel better but I don't know where to start as I don't want to take something that may make me worse ! thank you again for all your great advice. Guest guest
Hi Gordi You need to write a letter to your GP and send a copy to the Head of Practice. In that letter tell the GP you are no longer satisfied to be told there is nothing wrong with you that antidepressants won't work out - this is not the case and you will now do whatever you can to find out the cause of all your symptoms and signs. First, list ALL of y our symptoms and signs (check these out on our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk under 'Hypothyroidism). It matters not how long the list is, mention each one and be sure to add all the 'signs' - as these are things your GP should see if only you were given a proper clinical examination. Next, list all the members of y our family who have a thyroid or autoimmune condition. Next, take your basal temperature for 4/5 mornings before you get out of bed or have anything to drink. Normal temperature is 98.6 degrees F (37.0degrees C). If your temperature is less than 97.8 F or 36.5 C - this is an indication your metabolism is running too slowly and the cause is most likely hypothyroidism. Next, list the full thyroid function tests you need done i.e. TSH, free T4, free T3 and TPO and TgAb to see if you have thyroid antibodies. Next tell your GP that you also need the following vitamin and minerals checked to see whether any of these are low in the reference range - if they are, any thyroid hormone being secreted by the thyroid gland (or thyroid hormone replacement you might be taking) cannot be fully utilised at cellular level. These are ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. In case your GP tries to tell you that there is absolutely no connection between these and low thyroid, show him the links to just some of the scientific research papers: Low iron/ferritin: Iron deficiency is shown to significantly reduce T4 to T3 conversion, increase reverse T3 levels, and block the thermogenic (metabolism boosting) properties of thyroid hormone (1-4). Thus, iron deficiency, as indicated by an iron saturation below 25 or a ferritin below 70, will result in diminished intracellular T3 levels. Additionally, T4 should not be considered adequate thyroid replacement if iron deficiency is present (1-4)). 1. Dillman E, Gale C, Green W, et al. NEVER allow a doctor to tell you your results are normal, because they will tell you that wherever they appear in the reference range. We need to know whether they are at the bottom, the middle or the top of the range. Next, ask for a referral to an endocrinologist of your choice. You do not have to go to the endo. recommended by your GP. We have found that the majority of endocrinologists have their speciality in diabetes and know little to nothing about the thyroid. Ask me separately for my doctors list of those recommended by our members. Last, ask for your letter of requests to be placed into your medical notes and see what happens. Doctors listen to the 'written word' more than they do to your voice - but keep a copy of the letter yourself in case you need to refer to it later. Good luck Luv - Sheila thank you Sheila for all that information ! I cannot believe how many of the symptoms I ticked !
