Hi , The definitive diagnosis for CML is the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome....which is a translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22. You find this when you do a bone marrow biopsy and do a cytogenetic analysis. When you are looking just at blood, maybe with a FISH test, you are looking for the BCR-ABL which is a marker for CML........I don't know exactly what test was done with your blood? You should get a complete answer from the bone marrow biopsy. Usually they will look at 20 dividing cells and see if any have the 9/22 translocation and if they do, what % have it. Good luck with your test. C.
