Hi ,

You are the first one to write me. I am so glad.

To answer your question, that is the hematologist/oncologist that was not

forthcoming to it. Her technician told me or she told me to read the CML book.

I go to see the hematologist again on the 30th.

The only question that I have now is WHAT IF I DON'T TAKE ANY OF THE

MEDICATIONS? and what are the complications with this disease, if I don't take

the meds? Is there pain somewhere?

I cannot stand pain, for your info, nor can I stand to be any larger from the

meds. I already have numerous other ailments. I'm in a mood now! that I can't

help, even though usually people call me a wise woman. Please look over my

mode, but I do want my questions answered please.

thanks so much for your compassion.

Ms. Muse,

It seems as if you ant to put your head in the sand about this disease. It is

life threatening if NOT treated. With treatment, life expectancy is near normal

for most of us. Gleevec is the first medication of choice, and it is taken in

pill form. It usually reduces your white blood cell count down to normal or

even lower in about 2 - 4 weeks. Bone marrow biopsies are important in

diagnosing CML, and need to be done at least once a year. Some people have bone

pain and some nausea when the begin to take Gleevec. This usually subsides when

your WBC count gets to normal levels. It is recommended that you take your

medication on a full stomach to reduce nausea. It is a life time medication.

There is no stopping Gleevec when things look normal.

Sorry to be so blunt, but this is a serious disease. Before Gleevec many of

us died whith a few years. Now our future looks brighter.
