Well, resistance to change is an Asperger's trait, versus, great

math/computer/chemistry skills, more of an ASD trait. Think I belong in the

first category.

I hate it. Blech.

I have my email sent to my outlook express / regular email addy and they seem to

be coming in order. I just hit my reply button...not the one in the email

message.

OK it's official: I loathe the new format. I can't tell what I've

I'm sure I'm being an idiot. How do you tell which posts you've read

and which ones you haven't? AT first I thought they turned purple

after being read but that doesn;t seem to be happening. (I'm reading

online, not as email.)

And there's no way to read, say, a particular person's posts without

opening all the threads and looking at the history, right?

I'm fine with change and pretty good at math, etc. I guess that

means I fall in the latter category.... I'd better start chelating!

Oh me too. I took that Wired magazine test a few years ago and was

about a millimeter from being on the spectrum.

I read online too, and mine do turn purple. I haven't logged off to

see if I will lose that though....

How did you do that before? Maybe I didn't understand the full

benefits of the old system.....

Could it be that we are looking at different screens? In the upper

right hand corner there is a link that says " message help " , or

something like that. One of the options is to switch between

message view and topic view. Could that be part of the problem?

Mine doesn't seem that different before...

I hope everyone is taking advantage of the feedback function on the right side

of the screen (at least for me, I get individual e-mail). I told them the font

is too small and too difficult to read (at least the font I get on the computer

at home, I get the old (Arial) font when I log on at the office.

If I go to another site but don't log off the computer, I lose the purple.

Well, if you looked at Message List or whatever they called it (how

soon I forget!) you could see each post, in order, along with who

posted it and the first sentence or so. So it was easy to skim. Now

all that info in buried in the threads, and I have no way to see

what's new. I may have to get a new email address and do it that way.

For those of you reading email, does it look the same as before?

Anne you're a genius! I switched back to the old way and you're right,

it's barely different. Whew.

I do think it is a particularly interesting twist of fate that I-----math gene

depleted, can't do step aerobics because the person teaching is facing me,

didn't automatically know my right from my left until I was in my early 30's, no

computer skills whatsoever, don't know where east or west or north or south

could possibly be-----would ever have a relative on the spectrum.

There is something called regression toward the mean, where two extremely short

parents will have a normally tall son....interesting.

That is why it is good to be in the second or third row in an

aerobics type class. You can have the math geeks who know their

left from right in front of you :-)

It may help you, , but I have given up on this. Always thought that

whatever part of the brain that is used for abstract math concepts was missing

or dead. It is some kind of learning disability I am sure. I got through

college and graduate school largely by avoiding any math/science classes,

statistics (thank you God) I can do. Still took me over 10 years to get my phd

due to having to understand statiscal analysis concepts. And my mother is a phd

chemist, imagine her confusion.

We have equivalency tests in Ohio to get out of high school and I have always

been thankful they didn't have those when I was graduating from high school as I

would still be there trying to pass the math portion.

Interesting, though, I can do geometry, not show any work, but just can look at

a problem and know the answer, but not be able to explain how I got it, algebra

is a complete mystery. My dd, sadly, is the same way, but the gd is a

math/computer/science whiz and loves it.

Ashamed to say, but true, she has taught me a few things about the computer,

waiting until she gets old enough to teach me the rest:)

It makes sense that the portion of the brain used would be missing

in me also. Unfortunately, I see early signs of it in my daughter.

She just finished kindergarten. She is very bright, started reading

when she was three and now reads junior high books. She can do some

early addition and subtraction but when I try to discuss or explain

how to get the answer or formulas, etc. she gets completely

confused. Like you were saying, she can get the answer but doesn't

know how she gets it. Or, maybe it is my flawed explanations that

she is having trouble with. Either way, I am sure she will pass me

of in the near future...

>>>Ha ha here too, my NT 10 and 11 year olds and my DH are the Maths peeps,

the kids and I do spelling, I think they quite like it when Daddy asks them

how to spell things - he is dyslexic - knows all the right letters but does

not do phonics AT ALL and finds it all bizzare, so he needs help putting them

in the right order :)
