Fluid in or around lungs

A year ago, 6 months after I increased my gleevec from 600 to 800 mg/day, I

was hospitalized for pericarditis and pleuracy - inflammation of the lining of

the heart and lung which included a pleural effusion...there wasn't enough

fluid to take out, so they put me on prednisone which helped decrease the

inflammation and effusion. Also, I was off of gleevec for 6 months and now am

back

on 400 mg. of gleevec and doing well with the leukemia. Unfortunately, I

haven't been able to get off the prednisone (when I decrease it, the

inflammation (and pain) returns....) ...!!! Not fun!

Apparently, there are a few others who have had this side effect from high

doses of gleevec...but is pretty rare...I also stopped taking procrit on the off

chance that had something to do with it...

Hope this helps,

Andi

Thanks Andi and ,

That makes me feel better so I will give some time to subside hopefully

that will be the route he takes. We'll see Monday. I appreciate you
