When I first started seeing I went with the anxious mind of a new CML patient, but also with the mind of an intelligent woman wanting answers to questions from an equally intelligent doctor. explained to me about the potential side effects of Glivec and the possible harm that it could do to my body over a long period of time. I went on to ask him about the new drug and he was very very clear (simple English) with his answer. This new drug is very very potent, it is 20 to 30 times more potent than Glivec and is far more chemo based. It is a very strong drug. I love the support received by this group and would not like to leave this group, but I do feel that there are many people sticking their heads in the sand over the potency of Glivec too. has told me on numerous occasions that Glivec too is a powerful drug which shouldn't be taken lightly. After all, who is the doctor here? Are we supposed to say to Tim and that they are liars and don't know what they are talking about??? Susie, you commented to me about the remarks that Tracey made against me yesterday in your chat with her and I was truly saddened to hear that. I respect that she has experience with CML but she is not a doctor. I am an intelligent woman and have the ability to pose questions to my doctor and demand a straight forward answer. If other people can't hack that truthful answer then that's their problem and they are ones sticking their heads in the sand, not me. I am also a member of the Asian support group which Susie I noticed you became a member of yesterday. I have a huge respect for Anjana, she is not only a doctor but a scientist!! She does not always provide the correct interpretation of the literature that she reads, but what she does it helpful to most, and you can then ask your specialist. My cml specialist is Dr. Druker and over the years I have asked him about comments made by Anjana and sometimes he shakes his head " no " . So, yes we can all gather information from each other and get some ideas and know what questions to ask the REAL doctors........but always 'consider the source! " that's my motto. The only REAL MD on this list is R.......who is very generous with his information, and still always refers us to our cml specialists. I don't like to see mis-information printed.....so I am just setting the record straight.....and not trying to add to the list arguments. Each person should be able to post what they personally know, believe or have experienced without others feeling like someone is stepping on their toes. C.
